View Full Version : Is it a sin to be upset with kids and puppies?

I am POOPED. No pun intended, which the following tale will entail.
Remember the 8 puppies? Today they are poopy puppies. I went in to check on them a little bit ago...and ONE of them (haven't figured out which one) has diarrhea. YES, you read that right, DIARRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
Think about it. 1 puppy has it, all of them step in it, GAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, so I've bleached about everything possible, and I can STILL SMELL IT! :vomit
I put the puppies outside. *gag*
While washing the rugs, I sprayed their poopy feet down with the hose, not caring at all that it was COLD WATER!!!! :evilglee
Now to the kids: My mother is gone on vacation. What does that have to do with the price of gold in China, you ask? Well, apparently my children are actually messy, messy, children, and my mother picks up after them all the time, and I just DO NOT NOTICE!!!
Because. MY HOUSE IS MESS!!! There are PILLOWS all OVER THE living room FLOOR. Here I thought we had a Grandma in the house, and apparently she is actually a live-in NANNY!!!
The middle bedroom, there are books everywhere, blankets everywhere, toys EVERY-WHERE!!!!!
My children, when asked to clean up the mess, are wandering around picking up one little thing here and there, looking confused, and asking me where to put it. OBVIOUSLY, I am going to have to clean this myself, but Equally Obviously, THEY need to learn how to put a few things away? How did I miss this glaring deficit in their upbringing?
My mother is going to have to STOP cleaning up. Period. When she gets back, there is going to be a talk about how grandchildren need to put away their own clothes and make their own beds. I am starting to suspect that maybe she was EVEN DOING THEIR CHORES!!!! :club
And I, I am exhausted, and feeling VERY cranky. I am a FAILURE as a mother and Foster Puppy Mom. :tissue
And it's making me feel better to temporarily blame my mother, so LEAVE ME ALONE! :club
Okay. Do you have any THOUGHTS? :aaa Maybe I need a :snapout or two.
if it makes you feel anybetter, last night I looked at my son (after fixing a clock he had broken for the upteenth time) and told him if he touched it ONE MORE TIME I was going to spank his hiney and it would HURT REALLY BAD!
I picked up his left hand, and said "If this hand touches this clock I will spank you really hard"
then I picked up his right hand and repeated.
then I made him repeat to me NO TOUCH!
i was not happy.

Just one of those days. If it makes you feel any better. I have a 85 pound puppy that just got over a bout of diarrhea, so you might still be getting off easy with the real little puppies.

Well, I am sitting as calmly as possible at the dining room table, (obviously typing) and when Jeff gets home, I'm going to let the Gestapo kick in while I escape to the grocery store.
I am SO upset!!!!! Irrationally, maybe. :crazy

Until they figure out you meant it the first time. Usually this involves being consistent with whatever punishment you promise them they will get after giving them the first verbal warning.

We have a routine, I do the living room, dining room, kitchen and my bedroom, she usually does the laundry and middle bathroom, and the kids are supposed to be keeping up with their own chores. I see them working on things...sometimes...
MAYBE, they are just taking advantage of me, BUT, I'm trying to push that thought away until their father gets home.

Yeah, they won't get the Parvo shots until they are a little older. You just should keep them away from other dogs or out where dogs have been going to the bathroom (I guess they don't actually "go to the bathroom" but you know what I mean.)

There is actually a schedule of about three sets of shots or so that they should really have before you allow them to interact with other dogs or go where they can come across dog urine, etc...

You can tell it's late Friday afternoon!
I remember 3 & 1/2 years ago when my father in law passed away in the Philippines & my wife had to jump on a jet and go home for two & a half weeks.
I managed all right, but when my wife was about a week from coming home, my two girls came down with the stomach flu!
It was horrible as bot ends were affected!
I ran the washing machine pretty near all night while I prayed for my wife to come home soon!
Thankfully stomach flu only lasts 24-48 hours!
It was a very long time!
Almost 15 months.
They are so much fun at that age. My kids were very clingy to us at that age. They didn't want anyone else holding them but us. I sure miss my babies being that small. *sigh*

My son is clingy to mom, not me (although he will allow me to hold him and not anyone else). I know I should be more adult than I am, but sometimes I get a little hurt whenever he sees mom and would rather be in her arms. I wonder if I'm doing anything wrong as far as being a parent.

I have a 15 yr old daughter and I wonder what am I doing wrong as a parent ?
.... the straw that breaks, my friend, the straw that breaks...
I guess this is where I differ in my approach with my children. I don't let their misbehavings pile up until they get one spanking for all the things they've done wrong up to that point. I've gone that route before and realized it really isn't fair to them to operate in that fashion. If they do something worthy of a whipping (which really happens very rarely), they get the whipping and then the offense is forgiven and forgotten on my part. I didn't always do things this way. I did things the way you are describing for a big part of my son's life, though. Being a parent has a learning curve with it too, and we all learn as we go. There are things the younger ones do that they don't get into trouble for like their older brother and sister did.
My son is clingy to mom, not me (although he will allow me to hold him and not anyone else). I know I should be more adult than I am, but sometimes I get a little hurt whenever he sees mom and would rather be in her arms. I wonder if I'm doing anything wrong as far as being a parent.
I wouldn't say you are doing anything wrong. Mommy is the primary care giver, so it's only natural for him to gravitate towards her. Eventually he will figure out which parent says "Yes" the easiest and he will go to that parent for permission to do the things he wants to do. Kids can be pretty sneaky that way.
As for whippin your kids, this is my advice. Believe me when I tell you that it took me several years of being a parent before I learned this. Children need to understand that what they did would be wrong before they did it, in order for me to really punish them for it. I remember I was giving my son a whippin for something, he looked at me while it was happening, and it dawned on me he really didn't understand that what he had done was wrong. I bet I cried more over having spanked him that day than he did for getting the spanking. It really changed my approach to disciplining my children.
I am not picking on you with what I am about to say, Brother Eastman, but there is no way I would give a 15 month old a spanking for what he did to your wallet. He only did what comes naturally to a child of his age. Right now he's learning by using all of his senses, and sticking something in his mouth is one of the main ways he learns. He had no concept of the value of the wallet or its contents. Nor did he understand that he isn't supposed to touch it. He just saw something within his reach and he wanted to investigate it. So, he took everything out of his new toy and proceeded to taste it and chew on it. Perfectly normal behaviour for a 15 month old. If he were 5 and had done it, then I could see him getting some form of discipline over it. Five year olds have the capacity to know not to touch Daddy's wallet. So, what I am saying is that I believe it's imperative to take into account a child's intent and his ability to understand that what he is doing is wrong before a whipping is in order. Just some hard earned advice. I think back now to some of the spankings I have given my son and oldest daughter and wish I could go back and do it differently than I did.
I have a 15 yr old daughter and I wonder what am I doing wrong as a parent ?
Brother, what I have learned with my 16 year old son is that communication is key. There have been times that something was eating at him, and I've had to practically make him tell me what it was. These kids are going through so many changes in their lives, while in these teen years, that it's easy for them to go into a shell of sorts and shut their parents out. They don't realize that their parent's advice and guidance is what they need most at this stage of their lives. That wall is tough to break through, but you can break through it.

LOL!!!!! u2 just have no idea how close I came to turning into my father, roaring through the house snapping a belt (which I don't happen to own...) :D
Instead I sat down, and when Jeff walked in, I burst into tears and he hugged me while I babbled about puppies, pillows, kids watching too much TV, etc etc.
Thankfully, order has been restored, and when the kids asked if they could go to the store with me, Jeff answered, "NO!!!"
The puppies are clean, and in the bathroom, and the laundry will get another bleaching...TOMORROW morning. No more mopping tonight.
I'm okay now. Thanks for being my support group!!!!! :roseglasses

I'd be upset too. Have you been able to get new cards and stuff ordered, to replace the ones he chewed on?

Good advice Rico.
Bro. E don't be hurt that your son goes to your wife more - - it's perfectly natural. She carried him for nine months, she spends the most time with him (more than likely) and she's the nuturer while you are the provider. Men's voices are more gruff and you are probably the one saying no the most to him right now.
He loves ya just as much as he does her.

Have you given them their Parvo shots? Cause if you didn't, that's bad. They will die.
I'm not going to read all the posts, but if it is Parvo diarreah is usually the first sign, and it is usually fatal. If it is Parvo, they won't last more than a couple of days and it is highly contageous. From our experience with dogs, it's hard to raise any more puppies once the germ is in your area.

Well, it must have been the cat food, because none of the other puppies have exhibited any abnormal pooping, and after I fed them their puppy mush, I watched each puppy POOP, to observe the...er...consistency. Everything seems normal...except...
The mother. :( Something is wrong with her, in fact, I suddenly had the thought that maybe she might have been the one with diarrhea, because she is acting lethargic and refusing to eat, and she has a sore on her belly that looks like a blister. So I'll be calling the vet tomorrow morning about her. In the meantime, I've fed the puppies and separated them from the mother, until after I talk to the vet.
