Benny Hinn: Todd Koontz and the two-minutes blessing scam
7-22-08
The latest reported ‘prosperity’ scam was reportedly committed by Todd Koontz, a guest speaker at the recent Benny Hinn “Miracle Crusade” in South Africa.
Apparently, in exchange for a gift of $1,000, 500 believers would receive an “exceptional blessing”.
According to Koontz the blessing would be “poured out for only two minutes.”..........
God’s blessing would last only two minutes and it would create 500 churchgoing millionaires or even billionaires - all they had to do was use their credit cards to pay $1 000 in offerings to televangelist Benny Hinn.
Pastor Tommie Ferreira of the AGS Church in Johannesburg was so upset about the “blessing” that, after a week, he wanted to know who of the donors actually had become millionaires.
Ferreira told Rapport he did not mean to bring about Hinn’s downfall.
He merely wanted to know if any of the hundreds of churchgoers who donated amounts of up to $1 000 (about R7 500) to Hinn’s Miracle Crusade last week Saturday had now become millionaires........
“He said the service would yield millionaires and billionaires within 24 hours.
“Everyone had to donate $1000 because an exceptional blessing rested on $1000.”
Koontz apparently really had the congregation scrambling when he said, “This blessing will be poured out for only two minutes.”
Ferreira said: “People stormed to the front - poor people, rich people, people from all sections of our society.”
Hinn’s co-pastors apparently had credit-card machines ready with which they could take donations.
“He (Koontz) said God would bless the people’s credit cards and they would be able to rule over South Africa with their money.
“Eventually there were no fewer than 1 000 people who made such donations.”

Wow. Very scary. These poor people will hate anything to do with Christianity after they don't get blessed. Just another sad example of spiritual abuse.

So sad when a truth of God's Word is used in this way.
1 Cor. 9 does state that God will bless the sower. And that if you sow sparingly you shall reap sparingly. But why $1,000? Why not the widow's mite principal. People would have to give on a level that would require faith--I could drop $2 in an offering and not think about it... No faith at all. But if I were to drop $100, I know that. $250 I really know it. It does raise my faith and expectation that God will supply my needs because I have obeyed his word and planted seed and the tithe.
Here is my q.? Why is Koontz the only "bad guy." If Hinn were ethical he should refund all monies he collected on the credit cards and donate thousands to the poor pastor.

Yeah, who doesn't know hes a rackateir? (if that's a word :D)
His judgment will likely be great for using the lords name to preform thievery. If only he could change, repent, and do what Zackeus did, give it all back and maybe + some.

What is sad is that some of these ministers may have a legimate calling. But they sell themselves to raise money for the big name preachers. They prostitute themselves and their gifting by selling it to the big name. In this case it appears that Koontz sold himself to Hinn and committed spiritual fornication-perversion with Hinn to raise a dollar.

Exactly, Hinn may try to preach some but I think there could be no disagreement that Hinn did not build a ministry/business on his word, it was on healing and gifts. That has gotten old and tired.
Why do all these preachers continue to prop him up by coming on his program raising money for him etc. His TV program consists of a guest and Hinn sitting beside him saying, "wow" "say that again" "amazing!"

Choices, choices... nobody forced these people to Hinn's crusade, and no one forced them to give. If they wanted to be right with GOD they would have studied things out in the Scriptures before ever going to one of Hinn's crusades and if they were just newly converted "Christians"/charismatics, then they were under some powerfully strong hypnosis to be willing to give $1000 to some preacher while still young in the LORD. Hopefully this will be a lesson, albeit an expensive, lesson learned.
To the person who said that Hinn and Koontz should be arrested, as you can tell from my post, I respectfully disagree.

You are correct with -"choices." As was described in the blog people were jumping over each other to get the $1000 in within two minutes.
What has us so upset about this is something you are guessing about when you write, "hypnosis."
As you will learn--ministers have a powerful influence over a congregation. They give the appearence of speaking from God and no one wants to displease God. People in a meeting are especially open spiritually because that is simply the way to contact God. They attend a meeting with an open and believing heart. That makes for a situation where they can be easily manipulated. So for a minister to take advantage of that is disgusting.
That is what has everyone upset. Yes the people have a choice, But it seems like they have been preyed upon and manipulated by Hinn and Koontz. And it appears worse yet Koontz perverted some basic Bible truth in doing so.

I think we should restore the OT law of stoning false prophets when they speak in the name of the LORD and it does not happen
Jer 14:15 Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although I did not send them, and who say, 'Sword and famine shall not come upon this land': By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.
Jer 23:25 I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, 'I have dreamed, I have dreamed!'
Deu 18:20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.'
Deu 18:21 And if you say in your heart, 'How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?'--
Deu 18:22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.

Who said they're a prophet?
There's a difference between a self proclaimed prophet and an anointed called prophet of God.
A called Prophet will do the Job for NO MONEY while the false or compromising Prophet will seek compensation.
If there's no discernment within you to know the difference, you're full of dead man's bones just as they.

Koontz was supposed to have said God would make millionaires within 24 hours of some of those who gave the $1,000. The question of the sponser of the meeting asked, Did it happen?
If it did not happen, then Koontz could be called a false prophet by some.

What does becoming a millionaire have in relation to the kingdom of God? The role of a prophet isn't making millionaires.

You should address that q. to Koontz. He is the one who "prophesised" it. Are you saying he spoke outside of the role of a prophet, or are you saying since this is not the role of a prophet he can prophesy it with no accountability of it coming to pass?

Who has proclaimed this man a prophet? When you read certain roles prophets played in the bible, you never seen them making millionaires out of people.
It's very possible for a prophet to speak outside thier role, and for this reason great caution is needed.

Not if I spoke falsely in the name of the Lord. Someone that pretends to be a prophet and is not really one....is not a real prophet but a false one
Act 13:6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:
Rev 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
A false prophet then is one that attempts to deceive others just like a false teacher is one that teaches false hoods. A False prophet speaks falsehoods and claims it came from a divine source or in this case God

So then one can prophesy mistakenly but with a heart wanting to do right and not be false.
Yet another can think he is right in prophecy and yet be both wrong in heart and prophecy thus making him/her (don't want to offend) false or just wrong?
However to prophecy with the knowledge of evil intent and without divine direction is blatantly false?

To accuse someone of being a false prophet only implies that they held or hold the title of prophet.
That is just silly. When my wife does this I call her a technocrat.
If you want to make a distinction in the Eph. 4:11 office of a prophet and one who has the 1. Cor. 12 gift of prophesy fine.
I have never heard Koontz claim or anyone assign the title of Prophet to him. I have never heard Hinn called a Prophet (though I would not because I never listen to him--to me he is just like a Catholic priest because he is so eaten up with Romanism and 3 Godism). But both have prophesied. At the very least we must say they have prophesied with the gift (1 Cor. 12). If their prophesis do not come to pass...then we must question the source of the "gift." Must be their own confused psychology/spirit or satanic. No other source to lay this on.
I tend to believe satanic religious witchcraft. I think evil spirits, specifically familiar spirits operate in many of these false ministries. They have built a very big building with no foundation underneath.

You are wrong again. A false teacher is one who twists scriptures and ultimately comes up with false doctrine.
Koontz claimed that God instructed him to demand a $1,000 "seed" and they had to give it in two minutes and if they did God would make some of them millioniares.
That either makes him a false prophet or one who is prophesying with a false gift of prophesy. Not a false teacher--he is not teaching with this revelation.
If you cannot see that then you are as blind as the poor souls that were deceived into giving to the crook Hinn.

They are both. BH HAS claimed to have received word from the LORD that was not True. Koontz was speaking authoritatively. He said God IS going to do THIS if you do THIS. And when it did not come true that makes him a false prophet because he prophesied (foretold said something was going to happen in the future) and worse yet he did not merely say something was going to happen absolutely but also called God as his witness by saying GOd is going to do such and such.
So I would say they are both false teachers for teaching this junk and false prophets for "prophesying" that God was going to bless them in two minutes IF they come forward and give 1k
