Last week I drove from Austin to Ft. Worth in the middle of a business trip. The afternoon I left to drive back to Austin I was finally able to meet the famous AFF poster "Ferd".

We arranged to meet at a Sauna. Well actually a Philly Cheese Steak place with a good reputatoin that Ferd wanted to check out and didn't realize had no dining room. Only outside picnic tables in the 95 degree weather with a brisk hair-dryer temp wind blowing.

I got there first and waited for the infamous Ferd. I knew it was him when I saw a tall true Texas Cowboy complete with white Stetson hat, blue jeans, and cowboy boots step out of that pickup with a toothpick between his teeth. Ferd had arrived!

He said "Howdy Pardner" and crushed my hand in a texas cowboy handshake.

We had a great time talking about God, Church, Louisiana, and a few other things so much that I didn't realize all of the things we didn't get around to talking about until after I left.

I definitely want to hook back up again for a visit the next time I am in the DFW area as Ferd is a great guy to visit with. Just as much a gentleman in person as on the forum.

Ferd WAS a Cowboy movie! He did leave his chaps and spurs in the pickup with the gun rack and rebel flag decal covering the back window though.

The shotgun and two rifles in the gun rack were pretty obvious but I couldn't see a pistol. I am assuming at least one was under the seat. No holster on him though.

Did his back bumper have a sticker that said "Obama for President?"

We did have a great time. I am sorry about the heat but the food was really really good.

Next time we will go to a place with air and walls!

I think you just have a perverse sense of humor and thought it would be funny to see fat boy here sweat!

The food was good and the between the good food and fellowship it was worth the heat (which wasn't really that bad).

It helped make me feel better after getting up that morning to find a hit and run driver had hit the front right fender of my rental car in the parking lot.

I called my corporate "incident report" line and was glad to find out that since I booked it through my corporate travel site and on the company credit card / hertz agreement that they have an agreement with hertz for insurance on the cars. Whew! I have rented cars for many years and never had anything happen except for a flat tire.

6' 3"?!? Not the FERD I know... Aren't ya' cuttin' him a bit short? The FERD I know is 6'8", with a 4" scar running along his right jaw bone that he acquired from wrestling steers on his 1,500 acre ranch, Drives a Ford dually complete with a set of Longhorns on the hood, has 12 gauge shot guns in his rear window, a square bale of hay in the bed of his truck with an extra Lariat (just in case a hefer is loose), and eats Texas sushi!

There how's that for legend?!?
