Have you ever experienced seeing some loved one that passed on come back and visit you?
Do you know someone that this has experienced this?
What do you think this means?
My dad died in an accident when I was 13. I only had two dreams with him in them that stood out to me.
One was not long after he died and it was like from a horror film. He was sitting in a chair with his back to me and was slowly turning around. Once he did I could see that his face was decomposed.
For some reason it didn't really freak me out or bother me. I think my 13 year old mind had been thinking about death, being buried in the ground, etc but my faith was in the fact he was not in his body but was in heaven.
The second time was so real it is still haunting. I was engaged to my wife and had been thinking a lot about how I wished my dad could have met her. One night I dreamed my wife and I were shopping in a mall. We had seperated and were in different stores.
I ran into my dad and was so excited to see him. I was saying to him 'Oh, you have got to meet my fiance! I have been so wanting you guys to meet". It was as if he was having to go and I was frantically looking through the throngs of people for her so I could yell at her to come over and meet him.
Of course I couldnt' see her and then he was gone. It was a very profound experience I can still relive to this day as if it happened yesterday and not about 28 years ago.
I have not seen any "ghosts" of loved ones although I have seen what appeared to be a ghost at the previous house we lived in after teasing my wife because she saw it multiple times. When a repairman who lived on our road first came to our house to work he asked my wife if she had "seen the ghost" which freaked her out because she didn't know the prevous occupants had also.

Oh. Wait. Never mind. Still alive.

I have heard of this happening to several folks I know.
One recently was in a dream they had.
I never have thought about it being in a dream as being "real" but I guess that it could be also. :)
I remember you telling us about that house. :)
Did you feel more peace after that dream and do you think it was the Lord letting you know your father could see your wife?

I dreamed a very vivid dream about my mom after she died. I was about 16 I think. But I didn't attribute it to a vision, just a dream.

I have heard of numerous stories of this happening where people saw or felt loved ones immediately after their death, but it was always in the sense of them saying goodbye. I have not heard specifically of someone coming BACK weeks, months, or years later.
But then this brings up the whole issue of "hauntings". Speaking of which, Ghosthunters is on tonight..... :)

I am certain that my 2 year old talks to my mother. My mother died in December and my daughter and wife barely made it to TN in time. But often she will be jabbering away and you ask who she is talking to and she says 'Gram' which is what we taught Delaney to call my mother. She will point to different places in the house like a room or corner or whatever and she will say "Hi Gram." So I am certain it can happen not certain why. Maybe my mother is a guardian angel to my daughter, if there is succh a thing.

When my grandma was still living and before I was married, I used to tease her and tell her that if I ever got in a fix, I was going to come and live at her house. She would tease back and tell me that any of the other grandkids could live there, but because we were too much alike, I could not ever move in with her.
Then when we bought our house, Grandma came to see it. She commented several times that if she ever got so she couldn't stay in her house, this is the first house she's ever seen that she was sure she could feel comfortable living in. I teased her back and told her there was no way. If I couldn't live with her, then she couldn't live with me.
Grandma lived alone until she died. She would watch TV long into the night and then sleep late in the morning. It was a lifestyle that fit her perfectly.
A year after we moved in to our house, GRandma died. The day after her funeral, we went to bed and to sleep at our normal time. At 2:00 a.m. our tv suddenly came on all by itself. LOUDLY! I got up, and went out to turn it off (it was in the living room). The same thing happened the next night, and the next and the next. Finally after about 5 nights, when I got up at around 3:30 a.m., I stood in the middle of the living room and said, "Grandma, I loved you. And if you want to live here with us now, you are certainly welcome. But you cannot watch TV in the middle of the night anymore because we both have to work in the morning." I turned the tv off then. And it never came back on in the middle of the night ever again!
So I didn't "see" Grandma. And I don't even know for sure that I was really talking to her. But if not, I also don't know any other explanation. What do you think?

I haven't "seen" the dead, but twice, since my wifes passing I have heard her voice as clearly as I can hear my own. Once, I heard here distinct voiice say to me "You silly boy". (She used to say that to me when ever I did something really dumb...which was fairly often). Then, I heard here say to me "I love you, baby". (That time was so real that I actually got up and began looking for her). I knew she was gone, but...had to look for her anyway. I "feel" our bed move just about every night- just like shes still there.
Course, I know there are pyscological reasons why this happens, but, I just prefer to think that God, in His goodness and comfort allows her to let me know she is still with me in spirit.

My dad used to sit on the end of the couch and watch TV. My mother sat in her chair across from the couch. About six months after he died, she was sitting in her chair reading and looked up and my father was sitting in his normal place. She spoke to him, he smiled and disappeared. In 1953 my grandmother lived down the block from my mother. One day my mother was in the kitchen and turned to see my grandmother standing in the doorway. My mother spoke to her, my grandmother waved and disappeared. In just minutes someone came to my mother's door and said my grandmother had just passed away. I don't know what she saw or how to explain it.
Very intersting accounts. I have enjoyed reading them. I think there is a lot we don't understand about these areas.
For one thing scientists say that we only use a small portion of our brains and I don't think God made that part we don't think we use for no reason.

Is this kinda like that movie "Sixth Sense"?
I see a bunch of dead people every Sunday during the sermon. They all come to life and stampede to the nearest buffet as soon as it's over.

I once was visited in a dream by a man that had died two weeks prior who's wife was my mother's best friend for many years.
He gave me a message to give to her. Little did I know that they'd prearranged that message years before.
It's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me. It was very real and I remember it vividly...except for the message.

When I was a little girl I was visiting my paternal grandmother and went out on the front porch to sit on the swing. While swinging I looked next door (maternal great grandparents) and saw my great grandfather swinging in his swing with his arm slung across the back just like always. He had been dead for at LEAST 5 years.
I don't know why I "saw" him didn't feel anything weird (I was only 8 or so years old) just remember thinking "But, Pepaw has been dead for a long time!" Then when I blinked....he was gone.
BUT, MY Pepaw Daniels loved me very much and I ate breakfast with him LOTS when I was a little girl and lived next door to them. Maybe my little child's mind just missed swinging with him.

Personally, I have never seen the dead...but I have felt that a person was getting ready to die and I had a difficult time saying good-by.
Deaths that I just knew..
...my Dad
...Sis. Barr
...Sis Barley
...Sis Sullivan.
I wanted to say good-by but couldn't. So glad we have a hope beyond this life. There are soem folks I want to see again.

My father passed away when I was 13 year old.
He passed away after a long illness that started with kidney disease.
The Lord has put him forever in my mind.
I can still smell his after shave.
I can hear his voice.
I can hear his laugh.
I hear things that I know would make him laugh.
I have done things in my life in business that were a success.
I have hit a home run in fast pitch baseball.
I have prayed with my kids.
In everything I have shared these moments in private with my dad, via the strength of his memory.
I want to document these moments in my mind.
So if on the other side the Lord gives us the moments, I can share them with him.
I see my father in my dreams and in my heart.
I do not see dead people living in some spirit form...
Dreams are the result of our conscious mind at work. They are not always meant to be signs from God or whatever
I agree with you.
It is however a blessing to have a dream of a lost loved one.
It is a source of comfort and joy.
If from God or the heart.
It is a great thing...

i do not beleive you should talk to the dead, i do beleive it is familiar spirit portraying that person. but for your grandmother standing in the doorway and waving, imo is a death angel, whether anyone beleives in that or not, thats your belief, but i beleive that was a warning from God, to be ready,
my grandmother was at home one day and the spirit angel i guess you would call it came to the door and told her that her son was going to die and that her husband was going to die 1 month later on the same date. well i beleive the Lord gets you ready for things like that, but i do not think that you want to intertain the dead , of anysort, i cant understand that you can talk to the dead and they respond, the Bible says let the dead bury the dead,
because if you intertain the spirit you are really intertaining the devil. i think the devil tries to scare people, and he can do it in that way/
i would like to hear more opinions, i hope i do not offened anyone, this is just what i saw and heard-- you got to be careful what you intertain,

My story isn’t about seeing or hearing the dead, but I guess it would be along the same vein. When I got saved, I had been a wild teenager. I had an aunt that was UPC, she led an uncle to the Lord, and finally they led me. God changed my life so completely that my Grandparents were amazed, they actually followed me! When I gave my life to God, I was in “all the way”, I was 15 and I would sit on the front row of church. I took God at His word, and took copious notes in service (some AFFers may remember that! LOL). Well when people would go up to get prayed for I saw that they would take the oil and anoint the sick…
A couple of months after we started going to church, I was staying the night at my grandparent’s home when my grandpa had a heart attack. My grandma came and got me; she was in tears and said she had called the ambulance. I jumped up, knowing what I had to do, so I went to the pantry.
I took out the vegetable oil and proceeded to run to the bedroom. I got a handful of it and slapped it on my Papoo’s (grandpa) head I prayed for healing in Jesus name. The attack stopped immediately. By the time ambulance came, his head was all greasy, but he was feeling fine. They took him in anyway. After that day my Grandmother made me the honorary Papoo-pray-er, anytime his health was in danger, I was the one she called.
About ten years after first night, I got one of “those” calls. I began to pray but I felt like instead I was supposed to pray for my grandma. I told her that it was time to let him go, and we did. My grandma spent the last couple of hours with him saying all the things she needed to say. His funeral was beautiful, and I will always thank God that He let my grandma and I in on that little secret just a couple of hours early.

We need to distinguish between dreams and visions. I think dreams of dead people have a healing affect. But if it turns into a vision or going to the grave and talking with them, we cross a line into possible familiar spirits area.
My wife and I live in her family home. We moved here to help tend to her father. He passed several years ago. He used to call her name from his room whenever he needed help with something. Several times after he died my wife and I have both heard him call her name. His voice, same way of speaking and running the syllables of her name together, “stephnee,” instead of “Stephanie.”
We recognized it as familiar spirits and prayed—did all the Pentecostal things, bound the devil, pleaded the blood, anointed with oil, etc. Whatever we did worked…we have not been bothered with it since.

Very good post.
The primary way God leads His children is through the Holy Spirit impressing your human spirit.
Next is the "still small voice". Then the louder more urgent voice, which a person could mistake for an actual audio voice, but it is only heard in your spirit. After those three ways, are dreams and visions. As a last resort, God might send another person to give you a message. These are all progressive steps God might take to get a message thru to any of his children. (By that, I mean, if you did not hear or recognize the voice of God, at one level He would step it up to the next level.)
There are at least two qualifiers or safety mechanisms, by which you can test the validity of the above described messages. They will never contradict the written word, and they will always validate what you already know deep down in your belly (spirit). You may have to stop and listen closely, get real quiet for a day or two, in order to hear what your own spirit is trying to tell you.
Any message which does not meet these two qualifiers, should always be ignored. This especially includes so called "personal prophesies" give over you by self proclaimed prophets.

not interested in things beyong this life, will just brush it off as

My grandmother (dad's mom) died when I was six. I have very vague memories of her. When I was 21 I had a very vivid dream. I walked into my house and she was sitting on the stairs. When I saw her we both hugged and were so excited to see each other. Then she said to me "Darcie I met your friend" I replied "I don't have a "friend". (The way she said it intended it was a guy). She answered,"Yes you do." I asked her what his name was, and she answered, "Love".
I told my dad he said "I think your gonna find your Mr. Right soon." Sure enough shortly after I started dating my husband.

My grandfather was cropduster who died in a plane crash...his son...my uncle was working for my dad....my dad gave him the payroll checks to give to the guys for pay cause we were going out of town for the weekend. My dad is driving down the road and hears and sees my papaw who said "Bill will you go check on ****,....will you?" My dad turned around in the road and found him at a video poker machine trying to win the money back...and he was just about to go kill himself....my dad walks up and says"****, come out here you dad sent me to talk to you" and prevented my uncle from committing suicide. My papaw was one to never ask anyone for anything...very stubborn and independant...really affected my dad when that happened cause my dad saw him as a father figure.

My aunt lost her daughter who was severely disabled....she lived until she was around thirty I think....anyways she had really bad cerebral palsy and had to use a walker and later in life only was in a wheelchair....anyways after she died my aunt was devastated and was really depressed....slept all the time...well she had a dream about her daughter where she saw her in heaven and her hair was fixed really nice and everything was made whole....no slurred speech....no palsy....anyways they are sitting there talking and these angels were coming up to her, touching her on the shoulder and saying Hey Christie! *My cousins name* Christie was letting my aunt know that everything was alright that she didnt have to worry....then she lifted up her dress to show her legs that were no longer crippled and told her"And look!I've got pretty legs like aunt Millo now!"Lol. It really helped my aunt recover that dream did.

I do know of a non UPC person that came home one day and saw her deceased MIL sitting on the porch in her rocking chair. She started talking to her. She was also hearing and talking to dead people during the night.
Her husband finally took her to the doctor and in her case, it was due to her hormones being out of balance.
I will say I do not have all the answers to this question.
And of course, there is the debate did Saul actually talk to Samuel or a familiar spirit???
It seems most of these situations reported are from dreams. Dreams very definitely can be from God.
Seeing dead people in your room is a less common experience, I think.

OK, i gotta ask, did you deliver the message, and what was the wife's response?
I waited a few weeks to deliver the message. I was afraid of her response, like she would think I was making it up or something.
Imagine my surprise when I found out that the message he gave me is one they'd prearranged several years before.
In that dream, I asked him why he wasn't telling her himself. He said, "You know Francie, she'll want me to stay."
I told her that part too, and she told me that every night, she'd lay in bed and grab the covers on his side of the bed, begging him to come back to her.
There's no way I dreamed this up from prior knowledge because I had none, except that he'd died. The message I gave her I have forgotten, which is strange, since the rest of the dream I remember in great detail, however, the message I gave was explicit in detail, and I remember it was something I didn't understand, like it didn't make sense to me or anything, which might be why I've forgotten it.
I should probably mention that they were both Apostolic and saved. I can't imagine the devil giving me that message for her, as others have insinuated in posts above. If it were the devil, seems to me that he'd have just went to her himself...LOL! And why would the devil care anyway???
