The pastor of the church where he was speaking said he told her his wife had died in childbirth. The article mentions the wife having been missing for 3 years and that the children taken into the DHR system as being in range from 3-something-in-the-teens-but-I-don't-recall-the-number.
Logically, she could have died in childbirth 3 years ago, especially if she had a precipitous delivery at home and some complication arose. Now, what mental disease/defect would cause him to think it was ok to place her body in a freezer? Who knows?

I have always read that freezers are more efficient and use less electricity the more you have in them so maybe he was just trying to conserve energy and lower his electric bill.
(I also have a sneaking suspicion that when it all comes out some type of government checks she was receiving and he continued to receive after her death will have played a part even if she died of natural causes).

I didn't even think of governmental assistance being a reason to hide her death, but that makes perfect sense. Abuse of the government's social welfare programs is really bad down here, with an entitlement mentality that "Uncle Sam owes me" being deeply ingrained.

1...What do you see in that news story that says they didn't inquire about her for three years? I don't see that in the story at all. Are you just assuming that?
(If anything, the story indicated that the man moved from place to place a lot, which may have made it difficult for them to keep track of her.)
2... What does that have to do with the fact it would still be appaling to them to see people making humor about the situation? (I really don't see what one has to do with the other.)

I guess it can be hard to see the humor in this because as it is oft mentioned, we're only reading text and not seeing what was actually going on.
For instance, no one was there to hear the Benny Hill theme playing in the background as he was running around in fast motion trying to stuff her under the frozen meat and peas.

Being crazy does not preclude being intelligent. Nor am I saying he actually has a mental disease or disorder. Simply that most of us wouldn't do something like this unless we lost all our senses and were a wee bit off our rockers. ("Us" in this sense means the general mentally healthy populace.)

Indeed . And there are many intelligent men out there preaching, even though they have zero anointing on their life. But if they know the Word pretty well, can speak well, and are good storytellers, often they can very a lot of success in their preaching career...(ahem)... I mean 'ministry'. :coffee2

It is quite possible that his religious leaning does not believe in physicians.. and perhaps the delivery went bad and he was afraid he would face charges for not getting her medical help.. he might have freaked.. the truth will come out.. if the autopsy indeed reveals she died in childbirth.. he would face no murder charges..... and I suppose it's legal to bury someone wherever you desire.. who knows

This is what happens when you all assume that if someone claims Christ that they are of Christ. Jesus said depart from me who work lawlessness for I NEVER knew you (Mat 7:23 ). According to the search warrant, a sexual affair involving Anthony Hopkins and one of his eight children had been going on for eight years. In the warrant, one of Hopkins' daughters says on or around November 4, 2004, her mother, Arletha Hopkins, caught her dad sexually abusing her in a bathroom at their home. Calm down, brother. I am well aware of the essentials of bibilical doctrine...
However, Almost all COGIC preachers have the baptism of the Holy Ghost (yes, the REAL Holy Ghost, like we received). And it is not unheard of for gifts of the spirit to be in operation even in churches that are not Apostolic.
So it's not outrageous to think that a pastor of a COGIC church could have or should have discerned that something was not right with this guy. That's all I'm saying.

Sorry bro. That does not compute.
----------
Anyway, to answer your question, yes, a person can have the bona fide Holy Ghost and not come to a mature understanding . Just look at the many Oneness believers who came out of families that were Assemblies of God, Cogic, Chuch of God, where many of their family members had previously received the Holy Ghost . Some of them came to a fuller understanding, and some didnt.
Just because they chose to cling to their Trinity doctrine doesnt mean they didnt receive the Holy Ghost brother. Lets get real here.
Besides, I think it's a bit presumptuous of you to assert that someone didnt receive the same Holy Ghost as you did, just because they dont have the same doctrinal understanding that you do.

Jesus said be mature as your Father in heaven is mature (Mat 5:48).
If someone stays a Trinitarian it's because he refused to be lead by the Holy Ghost. Big difference.
I'm not talking about polly parroting a doctrine, but an individual hearing the Word and getting understanding. Then we see God work and not man.
----------
Anyway, to answer your question, yes, a person can have the bona fide Holy Ghost and not come to a mature understanding . Just look at the many Oneness believers who came out of families that were Assemblies of God, Cogic, Chuch of God, where many of their family members had previously received the Holy Ghost . Some of them came to a fuller understanding, and some didnt.
I am pleased to see you understand what I was saying. One must come to understand who Jesus really is. Not one Jehovah Witness will make it to heaven, no matter how much Bible he studies, if he does not allow God to show him the mighty God in Christ.
The Assembly of God believer who refuses to let God show him truth will slip backward away from God and toward their false teachers. They respect the leadership more of man than of the Holy Ghost that they claimed to of received. Those who got the revelation of the scripture about the mighty God in Christ, went on to greater revelations in the Word, when some others went backward. Not all who were baptized in Jesus name walked out of that meeting with the Assembly of God.
Just because they chose to cling to their Trinity doctrine doesnt mean they didnt receive the Holy Ghost brother. Lets get real here.
Hold on, what about those men who went on to believe in dualism, that Jesus was just a man and that their was a greater who was their God.
Sorry but when you go back and truth on the Godhead you have lost who your God is.
The Spirit of truth will lead you into all truth, not some truth.
The teaching of Jesus being God is the corner stone of the whole structure of the Kingdom.
Besides, I think it's a bit presumptuous of you to assert that someone didnt receive the same Holy Ghost as you did, just because they dont have the same doctrinal understanding that you do.
My Brother, that is just something you and I will have to be judged for.
You see if someone receives the Holy Ghost they don't go backward "IF" they are ALLOWING the Holy Ghost to be their Master. The ministers are to teach the truth no matter what, and let God do the rest. Paul planted, Apollos watered but God gave the increase. I have met One God believers from all over the United States and abroad, who have a great understanding of the Mighty God in Christ because they allowed the Holy Ghost to lead them as they were taught by Holy Ghost filled preachers and they STUDIED to see if what was being preached was TRUTH.
People will be tossed into Hell because they and their preachers didn't care about the Book. Trinitarians need to be saved, and baptized in Jesus name.
In Jesus name

It is quite possible that his religious leaning does not believe in physicians.. and perhaps the delivery went bad and he was afraid he would face charges for not getting her medical help.. he might have freaked.. the truth will come out.. if the autopsy indeed reveals she died in childbirth.. he would face no murder charges..... and I suppose it's legal to bury someone wherever you desire.. who knows
I'm sure authorities think that if he's capable of raping and sodomizing a relative, he might also be capable of murder. That connection makes sense--if you're capable of one type of violence, it's not such a leap to another capability.
And actually, I don't think it's legal to bury someone wherever you desire. :coffee2
I wonder what he told his children? And why didn't he actually go ahead and bury his wife somewhere? Why put her in the freezer?
They were homeschooling, and if he was evangelizing (e.g., traveling), it stands to reason that his wife was flying "under the radar" anyway, and it would be common for him to show up at revivals without his wife. Therefore, I can see how she wouldn't be missed, as opposed to a pastor's wife.
That doesn't explain why her family didn't notice her missing, though....
Overall, it's a disturbing story.

Being crazy does not preclude being intelligent. Nor am I saying he actually has a mental disease or disorder. Simply that most of us wouldn't do something like this unless we lost all our senses and were a wee bit off our rockers. ("Us" in this sense means the general mentally healthy populace.)
I didn't say anything about being crazy and not being intelligent.
The story this thread is based on has taken a horrific turn. I had hoped that since this husband was a preacher perhaps the wife had died of natural causes and he had just kept her body frozen to keep getting a welfare check or something.
It is the worst possible story. The wife caught this man abusing his daughter sexually in a bathroom November of 2004. They argued and she kicked him out of the house, locking him out. That night he came to his daughters window and talked her into opening it and letting him in. He killed his wife and had the daughter help him put her body in the freezer.
The daugther who is 19 years old now moved out of the home 2 weeks ago and went to officials and told them her father had been sexually abusing her since she was 11 years old and what had happened to her mother.
I cannot imagine the psychological and spiritual scars this 19 year old girl must have from all she has endured and witnessed. I imagine she was afraid that if she told anybody he would kill her also.

I imagine that's why she didn't come forward until she was safely out of the home.

Can you imagine her fear? He's been abusing her. He kills her mother. Makes her help him hide it. Continues abusing and terrorizing her, probably now with threats of "Remember what happened to your mom? I can kill you too." Or threats of hurting one of her siblings.

I can't for the life of me figure out why that man wouldn't have disposed of the body, or the freezer.. or both.
Maybe it was to keep the children in fear.

Found this at the end of the story...it amazes me...
Of Hopkins' preaching ability, Porter said, "he was a bulls-eye prophet. If he told you something, you could pretty much bank on it."

That home is very near the community college where I attended nursing school. I graduated in Dec 06, so this poor woman was dead in the freezer while life bustled in the community around the home. It just all feels very surreal to me.

A child molester, liar, and murderer who is also supposedly a prophet.
Interesting, to say the least.
