There is a retired barber in my community, who has a little shop by his house ,who charges five bucks for a cut but he only opens on wednesdays from about 6 to 12.
I could not make it this wednesday for my annual trim, the other full time barbers in town charge anywhere from 10 to 15 bucks, which I hate to pay that for a trim for no more hair than I have.I'm going to try to make it to my old faithful this wednesday.
What do the barbers charge in your area ? Like anything else haircuts seem to have gone up in price.
$14 bucks here.
I have been going to him for about 12 years.

The guy here in town that charges 10 bucks,my father in law says doesn't do a good job.
My wife says for no more hair than I have it's crazy for me to pay 15 and up for a trim.

I cut my hair myself. I can't do anyone else's hair though.

I don't know what barbers charge here.
I've been going to the same guy for years.
He's a Christian.
He has changed shops/salons a couple of times but I to with him.
I go the first Wednesday of the month at 9:45 a.m.
His current charge is $15 so I give him $20 and he keeps the extra.
Before he moved to this current place he was charging $12 and I gave him $20 so he has lost money moving to the current place.

It is crazy. The last time I paid for a haircut, 2004, I looked at result in disgust and supposed I could have done it at least that well, considering $16 and 10 minutes of work. From that day on, I have cut my own hair, and no one knows, or at least won't say so. After first mistakes, it's not so hard! I only needed a good pair of scissors and an extra mirror. I have plenty of hair and always look "apostolic," (but not intentionally so.) Your task may be easier! Eventualy the scissor work will happen by feel more than mirror coordination.

What do you do the rest of the year - comb it over and put it in a ponytail? LOL!
Sorry Bro. Scott - that just hit me funny!

I just paid $12, but I did not go to my normal place which is $15 but I really like them, except I never get the person I like so I decided to try someone else this time. Not to sure about liking it.
They run between $9 (for seniors) up toward $18 for a regular cut. If you add a shave to it is between $25 and $32.

$12 plus a $2 tip. It's a 2 on the sides and a 4 on top and it's every three weeks religiously for me.

I used to cut my own hair till I found a shop that gave a discount for a follicle impaired individual.
Then enter two of my daughters who went to beauty school.
One works at a Salon, the other owns her own shop.
My Hair cuts are now free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Average cost: $10 - $15.
Two daughters who give it to me free: priceless.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is good.
Just go to Sallys hair supply and buy yourself a good clipper set. Once you get the hang of it, it just takes about 10 -15 minutes.
I cut mine in a military style cut it's easy and fast.
That will save you the time and bother of going to a shop plus about $200 a year.
I think some older guys like to go to a barber shop to hang out and talk.
My Father enjoyed doing that. even though my mother was a beautician (before upc) and could cut his hair,
he like his little hang out for the old guys lol

I pay $12-$20 each for my boys' haircuts. But I cut Walt's myself. I would cut the kids' too if they would let me. Someday when the money comes out of THEIR pockets, I'm sure I will then get the privilege.

I have to admit that is one area where I will spend .99 a gallon if I can. But GEL on the other hand, has to be better! Bedhead!

If you use high end gel, can you then expect .99 shampoo to be good enough to get it out?

Bald Cut at local barber shop = $12.00 - $15.00
If I want a "fade" or "taper", I have to go to the local barbershop = $14.00 - $18.00.

I say annual cause I get a trim about every 3 to 4 wks.
Even though I'm thin on top if the rest of my hair gets shaggy then my hair looks like bozo the clown hair.

LOL, that is so true!!! My FIL gets his hair cut about once a month then makes a trip back once a day for the "gossip" (me thinks menfolk are much better at it than most womenfolk!) LOL
As far as cost......my husband pays 9.00 for his hair cut and he is also "follicle impaired" as someone else put it.....LOL! He says he is one of his barbers "gravy jobs"!

Here in St. Louis Ipaid $13 last time plus tip. It took four trips to him before I got him trained. I think he misunderstood the first three times and thought I said I wanted a shave not a haircut. took three months to grow out. In Ca. I have been using the same shop for about 30 years. I think I paid $15 plus tip and $5. to have my beard trimmed. I haven't trusted the St. Louis barber with my beard yet.

I haven't been to a barber for a haircut for over 20 years !
We got one of those haircutting gadgets you attach to a vacum cleaner and I cut my own hair, it is fairly foolproof and easy to use, and my wife thinks it does an excellent job of cutting my hair as good or better as the barber did.
Now, let's see, if I figure an average of one haircut per month times 20 years times an average of say, $15 per haircut, 12 x 20 x 15 = $3,600 saved !
(and we are only on our 2nd haircutting gadget so I think it has paid for itself by now :-)
Now obviously my motive for getting saved was not to save money, but it does happen to be a nice side benefit, because God delivered me from drugs, alcohol, and about 3 packs a day cigarettes over 25 years ago, can you imagine how much money I saved from not doing those things for over 25 years ?
