This came about regarding some discussion, why would God give a revelatory word/prophecy regarding what was to come on the earth in the near future.

Felicity in particular quizzed why God would speak about something when the prophetic text reveals the same.

This is how I responded, I think it merits it's own thread.

Amazing sometimes the dearth of scriptural understanding.

The Apostle Paul, had significant warnings that difficult times were ahead for him personally, (Acts 20:23) , yet God sent a prophet (Acts 21:11) to give him the same message in person, for the following reasons, 1. either to shore up his faith, 2. confirm what he was going through was pre-ordained, 3. and to let him know that God knew, sometimes that in itself is enough.

I can't explain why the Holy Spirit does what he does, but it does seem that it might fit into the reasons above why the Holy Spirit chose in a personal, real way into interrupt our church service to tell us that something was coming our way that would cause tremendous trouble, but that the church would still be triumphant regardless and to let our light shine in darkness.

Anything wrong with that, then take it up with the Holy Spirit.

I guess I'm thinking, "How many times do I tell my kids the same thing when they haven't forgotten what I said the last time?"

Simple: Because once isn't enough. God knows that we are like sheep. He knows our frame, that we are but dust. He knows His ways are higher than our ways. Repetition and emphasis is needed depending on the importance of the message.

God can say the same thing over and over and over. Who am I to say He can't or won't when His word doesn't address the issue? :D

I agree - I believe it was said that it wasn't needed.

I don't need to hear from God everyday, but it sure is wonderful if I do!

I think the prophetic is meant to be a confirming word for things that you are already feeling in the Spirit. JMHO....

Fake prophets probably like the obvious ones because they're safest. :tease

The title of this thread got me thinking about the "Words of Knowledge" which are said about things which should be common knowledge.
And then those who show outrage when someone dares to bring it up -like the little boy who shouted "the emperor has no cloths!".

I think that some do it because they "feel" it and call it prophecy....

Some do it because they like to title themselves Prophetic...

Some are genuine...

Some have some self esteem issues and it promotes their "ministry"....

and so on...there are a number of reasons I think but it all hinges on the person

who is prophesying....

And there are some that are just plain old accurate words spoken by the spirit, that others who don't do it wish they could. :friend

This wasn't about eschatology, but a manifestation of the spirit.

Understood,

But, the subject matter has far reaching application to the prophetic word.

Israel was visited by God even in good times with warnings that were not heeded.

Israel went into captivity and "didn't know why" even though God TOLD them what would happen if their conduct did not change.

Many time we 'wonder' why we are in the predicament we are in, when if we think back the 'writing' was "on the wall."

I think the warning and admonishment that God gave Moab fits in here.
Jer. 48:11-12
11 Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.

12 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.
