Letterman is a better show than Leno.

You go to New York to be entertained, shop, or look at tall buldings and statues. Other than that, there isn't really much to NYC...

Contestant #1: Heather, from Anchorage, Alaska. What's it like in Alaska? "It's frozen and it's cold." Just like the Ed Sullivan Theater. She's a mom of three and owns a children's clothing store. She's here with her husband. Dave leans over to greet the husband who does not rise to meet Dave. Dave mutters with sarcasm, "Don't get up." The guy was in a no-win situation. If he had stood up, Dave would have told him to sit down. Whichever way it goes, it makes me laugh every time.
What does Heather want to play? Know Your Current Events
#1. This week, New Yorkers had to trudge through four inches of what?
Answer: Discarded Knicks tickets.
#2. Why has President Bush kept mostly silent about Barack Obama?
Answer: He can't pronounce his name.
Contestant #2: Kerry Anne from Chicago. While Dave and KerryAnne chat, our camera starts going haywire, moving up and down and side to side. Dave finally notices the screwy camera and asks our cameraman Dave Dorsett what's the problem. The ever honest Mr. Dorsett responds, "Sorry, Dave, I was just trying to liven up this ........."
Kerry Anne owns a housecat named Phoenix that weighs 20 pounds. Heck, we have rats in the theater that big. Kerry Ann chooses, "Know Your Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show."
#1. (photo of a bald dog-judge.) This year, prominent judge Dr. Robert Indeglia was selected to judge which category?
Answer: "Hairless breeds"
#2. (photo of golden retriever getting his teeth inspected) Here we see a judge checking for what?
Answer: "Clues to what happened to a missing Teacup Chihuahua
Contestant #3. Susan, from Jacksonville, Florida. She's here on her honeymoon. Late Show viewers should have known what was coming next. Dave wonders why anyone would want to spend their honeymoon at the Late Show. As Dave hands Susan the category card, he says to her, "Make a choice. Discuss it with your husband . . . this could be your first big decision as a couple." I laughed when Susan didn't even look towards her husband. She perused the card and decided on Know Your Cuts of Meat. Tonight's featured meats: Beef round top round roast, and ground veal. Congratulations to Susan for knowing the ground veal.
And that was Know Your Current Events.

Is it appropriate for a minister and his wife to attend a TV show taping on their vacation?
My answer is YES it is okay. Did she or they do or say anything inappropriate or would bring about a negative image? Absolutely not. Were they a bad witness? Absolutely not. The show is a talk show where celebrities come on and talk. It is not like a UPC couple was caught in Vegas coming out of Zumanity or Jubilee.

Furthermore...the people who are picked to do that portion of the show, are picked ahead of time. Usually 99% are tourists. They have to sign a release and are seated next to the front. If at any time it was wrong...(which I would love to hear the reasoning of why it would be)....they could have said no thanks.

Exactly. Not all entertainment is going to be about God...however, there are some forms of entertainment that are good.
Having been to Branson (and will never go back) the shows are country but nothing God-centered. However, it is good entertainment for those that like that. To put the logic presented about a Christian going to something like that...you ae right that the same could be said about Branson, or any other entertainment genre that did not bring glory or centered on God.
God does entrust us. It would be a totally different discussion if they were caught coming out a topless revue show. But, they were caught on tape in the audience of the David Letterman show. No bad done.

I went to Branson during Christmas and saw "Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede Christmas Show." It was centered around the birth of Christ. It was awesome. I was pleasantly surprised at how open they were about Christmas and the birth. They had an angel floating in the sky. It is neat.
If it had not been a Christmas show, I wouldn't have enjoyed it.

I didnt read everything about that particular show, but I thought I saw something about a guest on that show was a particular challenge for the censors....meaning she had a potty mouth..I'd hope some portions of the taping were uncomfortable for a born again, HG filled person....
about going to David Letterman - nothing he talks about, very few guest he has or extra entertaining segments, are anything Christians, especially pentecostal folks should waste their time seeing...The arguement can be made that we see and hear the same thing on our job or out at the mall...so nothing is EVER cut and dry.
I dont think we as born again believers we are to stick our head in the sand and shelter ourselves from the real world, neither do I think we need to expose ourselves to things that are of the world that could be harmful. Our only commandment, as I understand it, it to bear fruit...how can you bear fruit if you dont go out into the harvest...BUT you dont go out there and become like the world and allow yourself to be influenced - you are a part of this world to make a difference
But the bottom line is - we make our own choices about our lives - and if we are living like we should, those choices are easy. (Most of the time)

I know our opinions differ and we see the light of day regarding t.v.
T.v. like anything else, can be a sin if it becomes your god and you worship it by giving it too much of your time and energies.
My critique is regarding the UPC movement and it stance on t.v. versus the attitude of their ministers.

One could say that radio, internet, magazines, newspapers and such are sin too, because of the filth that one can find in them!
Just like the other mentioned media, I believe one can use a Godly conscience to determine what is and what isn't healthy spiritually to watch.

The bolded part I 100% agree with. You can substitute anything in for TV and the statement would be true.
With your latter statement, I think people are seeing the total hypocricy in saying you can have one and not the other. Amazing how many people can have self-control on the internet and none on TV.

Pianoman..I agree with you 100%. God has given us a conscience and we can choose to view what is evil or refrain from it on TV. We can view evil on the internet or refrain from it. We can view inapprorpiate magazines and readings or refrain from it.

I don't see anything wrong with a UPCer or any other OA person being part of a Letterman audience. I wouldn't be interested myself. I don't think I've ever watched even one whole Letterman program.
I think some see it as a double standard. That you sign an oath saying you'll have nothing to do with TV and then participate in a TV program audience. I'm not saying that, but it's how some see it (just as an explanation for those who wonder why someone would have a problem with it).

It does not work that way. By virtue of being in the audience you agree to be recorded for television and possibly be called on by the host.
They may have had them sign some additional paperwork after the taping for details such as name, address, etc.

I don't think he looked sheepish. If you know him, that is basically his personality. Also, during these segements of the show, the spouse, partner, significant other, etc. very rarely is included in the spoof. So him not standing with her is not an issue.
BTW, when this was originally aired, they were not to ashamed of it, since they text their friends all around the country to watch it that night.
