Last week a young soldier, Eric Essary, from Dyer County (West Tennessee) was killed in Afghanistan, the cause of death has been ruled as an impact from an improvised explosive device (IED) while on dismounted patrol.

He only graduated from high school in 2006 where he had been in the Jr. ROTC program and enlisted in the Army the beginning of his Senior year.

His body will be flown to Dyersburg on Wednesday and services will be held over the weekend. This is the second young man from this rural county in three years to die in Afghanistan.

I did not know this young man but I do know some of his extended family.

I would ask you mention the Essary family in prayer during this time as well as friends and fellow soldiers of Eric. And may this serve as a reminder to continue to pray for all our men and women serving in the military.
