Do those of you who attended JCM still abide by the things you were taught while you attended?
Have you backed away from anything? :foottap
Do you still adhere to the teachings? :thumbsup

Glenda,
If you knew how it would end - then why did you start it? It really isn't as you think it was at JCM. I was an ultra-conservative and JCM was full of PCI folks. I learned many things I did not know as I was sheltered from the 'real world'.
It amazes me how people think because you don't hold the ultra-conservative UPCI dress code that you have no standards. I think so much focus has been on the outward that the inner man has been neglected.
If you truly love God - you abstain from immorality and sin. If you love God you will be modest in speech, dress, and of exceptional moral character.
Being holy is not about dress standards...it is about taking on the nature and character of God. I had some things I had to post today because of an 80th birthday of a dear friend, but I could not let this go by without responding.
If you want to say you are more holy than the rest of us because you don't cut your hair or wear makeup then you are fooling yourself and miss the point.
Sincerely,
Rhoni

Being holy is setting yourself apart unto him. Everyone has a level of holiness in which they set themselves apart. So in part you argument fails though I understand what you mean. Being righteous before God is being right of heart toward him and him judging according to your deeds your heart. In part this includes setting oneself apart and holy. A relationship though has the aspect of offering unto the other. Thus my point of level of holiness. What you give and separate unto God is love not a measuring stick to hit others with.

Many things are typical of certain arguments and mentalities and a personal aspect is not needed to judge many things. To say what you said is clearly judging according to your own criteria you just laid out. Pharisee robe can only have a few applications and they lead down the same path of thought everytime.

That was not the point I did not bring up what is set apart but what we choose to do in response him and setting our life as a whole apart unto him. This is by doing his will AND giving something extra just like any relationship. Me and my wife are one and we set ourselves apart unto each other all of mine is hers and all of hers is mine with the emphasis on all mine is hers so she says LOL! but there are times I set apart something special whether it be time, cause, or whatever. That is holy in our relationship! I didn't have to but love compels me.

Glenda,
If you knew how this thread would go yet you posted the question then I can't help but think you were looking for something to allow you to step up on your holier than thou stool.
Thank heavens your holier than thou stool is pretty short as you still are civil. LOL!!!!
I attended JCM in it's prime and did not have a clue it had instructors with a PCI take on doctrine. T.L. Craft was and is very much a 3 stepper and I left JCM just as much one as when I arrived. Nothing there in a class ever challenged that doctrine while I was attending.
I never agreed with the extra biblical and non biblical standards so that had nothing to do with JCM.
JCM was considered liberal because boys and girls could ride in the same car to church and eat together in the cafeteria unlike some other UPC Bible Colleges of the time.

I don't remember ever being taught standards at JCM. We were taught School Rules, but when you went home on vacation breaks, you all were just who you were before JCM. As far as doctrinally, JCM teachers actually helped me to understand that it was ok to question what you've been taught and to figure some of it out on your own. The church we attended in Jackson is what preached the conservative, "holy" message, not the school.

This JCMer still is a Christian! I've left the cultural side of Apostolic Pentecostalism.
What we learned at JCM?
How to sneak out of your dorm at night an go to IHOP for pancakes and bacon!
How to go on an unchaperoned date undetected.
How to go to the beach with a PK so you wouldn't get in too much trouble once you got back on campus (just don't take pictures!).
How to get room restriction for not wearing pantyhose to chapel. (BUSTED by Bro. Oggs!)
How to watch movies with all your friend in a room at the Holiday Inn when your roommate's brother comes to town to visit.
How to form a perfectly coiffed poof positioned on the forehead like a miner's light.
How to lift a panel off of the dropped ceiling in the ladies lounge to either sneak across to your boyfriend's room or chat with the guys while they were working out.
How to avoid slipping in iced "water" by the dorm-room doors.
How to endure lengthy room restriction for going to the reservoir...
and much much more!

BTW...I'm still Pentecostal to my core, but have never agreed with "MANual" standards. What especially raised my hackles was "standards" being preached as heaven-or-hell issues and being used as a barometer of spiritual depth. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I still believe in ONENESS of the Godhead, full-body immersion baptism in Jesus Name, etc.

My friend. If you are not following the Apostolic standards of inward or outward holiness, you are not even saved. Find yourself a good conservative man of God that will preach truth to you. You are on the outside looking in as far as being a member of the body of Christ goes. Anybody who does not want to live holy on the outside has a deep inward problem. The good news is that you can pray through to an old fashion Holy Ghost experience that will give you convictions.

I remember sometime after I graduated from JCM going back to one night of the music conference there and being amazed at the "poofs" (Southern spelling vs. your high society "pouf").
Apparently what had started out as small appendages had grown and the girls were trying to outdo each other by the size of them. They looked like aliens. I bet most of them are mortified now when they look at pics from then.

Most of the Pentecostal "do-s" come from current "prom styles" or "wedding styles". A lot of our girls get asked if they're going to the prom when they're out and about.

I can understand them asking if they are going to prom, but I honestly haven't seen ANY prom styles with those rolls! My DIL does a ton of hair for proms and she's never fixed one like that! LOL!
I'm with you - I'll be glad when that goes out. They will die 20 yrs from now that they ever fixed it that way.

I've seen a few prom styles with barrel rolls. Here are a couple I found. Not as structured as Apostolics, but then they don't have as much hair to deal with either!
Here's one (http://www.pageantry.org/magazine/features/2003/d03/d03hairupdoswebed.html) - it's #3
another (http://www.prettysoldiers.org/formal-hairstyles.htm)

You know, these barrel curl hairstyles look like a modernized, modification of my Aunts' "taller the hair, closer to God" hairdo from the 70's.

We had a slideshow at my dad's birthday party that had a picture of my mom's BIG huge 70's barrel curl hairdo. The ones that they would fix once a week, and then sleep in with a head-scarf tied on, ya know? The young girls *flipped out*! "HOW DID YOU DO THAT????"
Seriously, they loved it. I looked at them all like they were NUTS! :D

LOL I guess all styles eventually work there way back around!
I remember Aunt Beatice actually saving the hair from her hairbrush, and using it underneath those barrel curls to get that "extra" height.
Sorry, but that was just so "icky"!! :ursofunny

My mom did that, plus went to the costume store and bought 'crepe hair' to make the wads to go underneath. ;)
I remember oatmeal boxes under the hair to make it taller, hairpieces pinned on to augment "real" hair, and sleeping with toilet paper wrapped around the head to keep the hair for several days. The toilet paper was my sister-in-law who stayed with us for the summer one year. My wife was amazed at the toilet paper that was disappearing till she saw her one morning or evening with her hair all wrapped in it.

My wife remembers her grandmother "saving" hair and augmenting her bun. She also dipped her comb in coffee to cover some of the gray.

LOL...Post some pics!
I remember women using Quaker Oat Cans, yarn, pantyhose, socks and tissue under their hair to get that bouffant look. I saved my old hair as it came out on my comb and brush. Lord, I am glad women have gotten smart on not doing that!!

Lord, I am glad women have gotten smart on not doing that!!Well, I never had much hair, so most of my "look" was fake. I don't know why that was never considered a sin. If makeup is wrong for giving a false impression, you'd think fake hair would have been! LOL

Lots of the ladies at our ALJC church when we started attending had obviously cut and dyed hair. They didn't even try to hide it or cover it up. Others had longer hair and some wore hiarpieces, etc. to augment it. Then, in the seventies our song leader (a man) got a hair piece and, from what I understand, was removed from platform duty. I always thought that was inconsistent.

Exactly on the false impressions!.....Fake hair is still considered ok in some Pentecostal circles. Many women have hair pieces the color of their hair. They just pile their hair under the hair piece. That doesn't bother me but it's s-t-i-l-l fake. I don't have much hair either (compared to what I used to have)..It's getting thin.

If false teeth are fine for women then they should be fine for men....Same with hairpieces, I say. :ursofunny

WOW - guess you missed that scripture about letting God decide who is saved. Clear that throat really good - maybe you can get rid of that knat you are choking on.
Why don't you find a scripture that allows someone to look any way they want to look. Find a scripture that ALLOWS make-up, jewelry, women wearing mens garments, men wearing womens garments. Find me a scripture that allows me to live how I want. Do you think a person can walk around without any clothes? Do you think a man can wear a dress and that be ok? Obviously you draw lines somewhere, you bad judgmental individual. Maybe I can smoke marijuana and be saved, Drink beer and be saved. You better find out if you are saved before God makes the final decision, because then it is too late.
What is the ministry for? To pat you on the back and say it's ok to live like you want and have a television? If your pastor does that, he is nothing but a hireling, sending you straight to hell.

People with your attitude are a waste of my time - of course it matters how someone lives - that's a really stupid argument - but I will NOT tell anyone they are hell bound for something I feel is wrong for me - once again I will let God make that decision and if I feel like they are going down the wrong path, I will pray for them and ask God to guide them and show them love when I am around them - not point my finger in their face and tell them they are going to hell - that would really win them over wouldn't it.
