My friend Michelle has been here all morning using my computer to get ideas for their vacation in the St Louis area. They have a 13 year old daughter, and want the trip to be filled with things she would really enjoy doing.

They don't have a huge budget for this trip and she's got a long list of stuff off the net that is free, or close to free... but needs to narrow it down some since they are only going to be there about three days.

Where are the best places to go in the St Louis area?

Also, recommendations on motels in the area would be great, because they have never been to the area. Do they want to stay right in St. Louis, or in an outlying area?

The St. Louis Zoo is free and GREAT!

Also, there's Science Museum close to the zoo

Grants Farm

Lots of free things to do - - when we lived there we took a whole week vacation to do things there - - stayed at home and it didn't costs hardly a thing.

As far as hotels - not real sure what area would be cheaper.

We have to eat here on our visits to St. Louis, of course, along with Lion's Choice!!!!

I live about 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis.

I do not find the city museum fun...lol. It's like a ginormous playground, with tons of stuff to crawl over but not much interesting to see.

Someone stated the Zoo, which is top notch and it's free. There's also the aforementioned Science Center, as well as the Arch and the museum that's in it. There's the Old Courthouse, the Art Museum, and the Botanical Gardens.

If they've never been to the Arch or the Zoo, I think those are probably the best things to go see. And if they've got the $$$, go see a Cardinals game. That's the best attraction in town. ;)
