Did you notice that the Hinduism and Islam regard Valentine’s Day as a “Christian Practice”. Why would they think that? What is there about Valentine’s Day that would make it appear to be a Christian activity?
My guess is that they think that because Valentine’s Day (at least as Christians practice it) is all about honoring the person we love. It especially focuses on men buying gifts and cards for their wives and sweethearts. In fact, I just heard on the radio that on Valentine’s Day men far outspend women on such expenditures.
It had been a big wedding, and the reception was well attended. Then came the honeymoon, the couple went to their hotel room After they unpacked their bags the groom took his bride by the hand sat her on the bed and said, "Honey, I hope you won’t mind, but now that we’re married I tho’t I’d mention a few little defects that I’ve noticed about you." "Not at all," the bride replied with a deceptive sweetness. "It was those little defects that kept me from getting a better husband."

V DAY IS A DAY OF PRESSURE! – Tell the hundreds, nay thousands, nay millions who are lined up and sweating buckets at the card and flower shops and other retail stores that sell Valentine Day specialties on Feb.13th because they have not yet bought the perfect card or gift.
One single sister said: “There’s one thing worse than not having a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day – actually having one.” She goes on: “you see, single women without a romantic interest on this day of love are only miserable for one flowerless day (a misery usually conquered by large quantities of after-holiday half-price Valentine’s Day candy). But when you do have someone special in your life, you have a sleep-depriving, nail-biting decision – with relationship-making or breaking ramifications – ahead: what to give this semi-significant other.”
She further goes on to talk about how males have it easy, red rose – “ love” ; yellow rose – “friendship”, any chocolate – you’re up there with Brad Pitt or a George Clooney. What do u give a guy, she cries! His favorite music CD - does that say “you’re cute”, or a power saw, - “I’m crazy about u”? She ended up buying a boxer shorts with "glow in the dark" hearts because her guy collects funny boxer shorts.
Well, on Valentine’s eve she casually mentioned her great idea to some of her Christian friends at work, they responded with raised eyebrows. “But that’s underwear” – went on to explain it may communicate a meaning they didn’t want to get into. The last thing she wanted to do is communicate something suggestive, so she went shopping and only store she could get to is a grocery store, due to work commitments – so she bought red food – strawberries, spaghetti sauce, cherry kool-aid, strawberry poptarts, apples, picante sauce – reason: what bachelor don’t need or want food? but she knew - “all the while knowing this was one of my dorkiest moves yet”.
See what Valentine’s Day pressure does to u?

Just speaking about Valentines Day....yesterday in an Admin Meeting at work, my boss (male) stated that he hated Valentine's Day...that it was such an imposition...as if he did not do anything on that ONE day, he is a bad husband. What about the other 363 days (he does do things for birthday and anniversary). He said, if you polled a bunch of guys...you would find that they secretly hate this day as well.
At this point...it's just another day for me...LOL!!!

We always celebrate Valentine's Day. But this year there was a "blizzard" her ein our area. So Walt, bless his heart, braved the elements and went to the drugstore to get me a little box of chocolate covered cherries. I didn't get him anything :(
But we talked. And we both said, we got our love gifts already this year. Walt worked hard to live and to come back full force. I stood by his side and walked through the whole aneurism experience with him. You find out when you've been through something like this that flowers, candy, none of it, none of that really says "I love you". Not the way that making it through a crisis together does. I don't need candy or flowers to know that Walt loves me. He fought hard to get back to me. That says it all.

Okay, who's going to be here tonight to keep me company?
The church crowd will be gone and the couple's crowd will hopefully be busy, so what's a single girl suppose to do?

Well, we won't hijack the VD thread, but it was meant to honor a man who did a lot of good, not promote racism. Sorry you feel that way...maybe we can discuss this at another time and thread...
