Well most know me and my story... raised conservative Mennonite and now OP - so I guess I have always been around "Standards" we just did not refer to them as such. By no means do I now, or have I believed all the "standards" are salvific in nature.

Again a thread like this needs to be defined... are we talking dress codes or more? Most everyone has some standards they live by.

This is why I used the term "outward standards", meaning rules that are outward in nature. I do not swear, do not have a hooked up television, etc., but I voted as not having , then having, then left off having because my church has no rules about this.

You and I understand the code language. :) But there are many that dress in moderation, don't smoke or drink alcohol, don't wear tatoos or string bikinis - all outward standards.

Okay.....dress standards imposed by a church. (Now someone will say "But they are not imposed!!!" :D)

I dress in moderation...I only wear clothes now and then.

They only count if they are written in a manual handed you by your higher-ups! :D (Or by oral tradition, like skirts on women!!)

Well I am not trying to make it difficult, but it really is. We have many that come to church without complying with all the dress "standards" - both at church and at home. They can take communion and be actively involved with worship. Does it limit their capacity to minister in the church body? Quite possibly, but then the same is the case in many churches that are seen as nonstandards churches. For example, Sherri's church has a rather extensive list of do's and don'ts for their church leadership and platform.

I would count them as not having outward standards.

I assume ILG means 'typical' Pentecostal standards. Pants, cut hair, makeup - for women. Shorts, etc.

How about:

being raised with different outward holiness standards, drop those to pick up other outward standards, drop most of those and now back to living some of the standards from the 2nd set of standards acquired?

How should I vote? :)

There needs to be. I don't see an appropriate choice for me. Someone who grew up with inward/outward holiness standards. As a young teen, I backslid, and had neither the inward or outward. As an older teen, I rededicated my life to Jesus, and in my return embraced the holiness standards once again. I still do.

So, I guess I did, I didn't, I do.:D

Have lived 'the standards' all of my life, still live them even though I no longer believe they are required by God, don't know exactly what I'll do about them in the future.
