Well, I know many UPC men who are now making the argument that if women can wear skirts to their knees then why can't the men wear shorts to the knee. The younger generation of UPC men are wearing shorts and the pastors aren't standing up to it that I know of.
In the last 15 years or so UPC women have always worn long skirts but in the last few years the ladies are wearing skirts to the knee and many are above the knee. This opens the door for the men to wear shorts.
Also, it used to be that guys hair couldn't be long or long sideburns weren't really allowed or were seen as rebellious. I don't think any of that stuff applies anymore.

A slippery slope and a pair of shorts.
Sounds like something one would have to pay good money to gain entrance to. :)
Men can easily wear long shorts. The only reason a conservative would be opposed is because they would think if people started wearing shorts that they would get shorter. And they probably will too because some people just won't feel it's wrong unless they are daisy dukes.

Right, many moderate UPC folks might not believe the standards but feel that without them folks will get more and more liberal until they are immodest. So many are scared to death to allow the standards to be removed for fear that folks will go hog wild.
The truth is that you can't legislate morality. If someone wants to be sensual or immodest they will be and it doesn't matter if they wear long pants or skirts.

I am considering taking up again some previous commitments that I at one time felt compelled to do, but never agreed with the reasoning I was given when I followed the compulsions in the past.
It's that I don't want to start these things again, if I'm just gonna lose the vision of the value of it all.
And NO I DO NOT CONSIDER STANDARDS TO BE MATTERS OF SALVATION!!
That argument makes me run the other way, every time!

I am not comfortable wearing shorts in public,so I don't however I would not have a probelm with a brother wearing long modest shorts.
As far as men's hair length a man can have a full set of hair just not long flowing tresses of hair as to have a femine looking hair do.
As far as mens standards go I am agains't men unbuttoning their shirts as to let alot of their chest hair show as it looks cheap and raunchy.
Sideburns that are a reasonable length I can handle, but those ones that go down to the chin and such don't look too hot to me.
Modesty is not holiness in itself, but modesty certainly can and should be a result of true Holiness.
I do believe Holiness is both inward and outward as well.
Manifesting the fruit of the Spirit and treating people right is also a big part of Holiness.

Men and women should dress in a way as not to carry themselves in a provokactive manner,we don't want to carry ourselves in a suggestive fashion ,so common sense would play a part in one choosing what length or shorts to wear, for male and female.
