We were in Jamaica last week for a hard earned week long vacation that was in the planning for over two years. Originally we purchased the vacation package 6 months before both our college graduations, but THREE DAYS before our plane was taking off the resort was closed because of the nora flu virus. Fast forward 18 months and we finally went!

It was at Couples Resorts in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on the Northern coast facing the great island paradise of Cuba. The resort was 21 and older AND couples ONLY which meant there were no bronzed hard bodies strolling the beaches looking to pick up women nor single women laying on the beach looking for bronzed hard bodies strutting around.

And yes, just about every sentence uttered by a local was accompanied by a "Ya Mon!".

It was a little nerve wracking actually. LOL
A horse is not the most stable platform for such activities especially if you've never been on one before.

Got the cap (with dreads) and a nice Jamaican/Hawaii shirt, and oh yes, our shot glass. We get a shot glass from every new place we visit.

You were there already? Remember that horrible marketplace they forced you to walk through when you were done and on your way to the buses?

Yes, I've been and yes I remember the market area - - they were all over us trying to get us to buy, braid our hair, etc.

Yeah, the sun can be brutal.... on skin that's not normally exposed to it. :ursofunny

Exactly! When you don't normally go shirt-less, there is a lot of pasty white skin that is suddenly exposed to a sun -which glares MUCH brighter that close to the equator!

Makes one want to visit Jamaica.
I recall our pastor (upc) going there in the '50's to visit a local church.

Nice photos, thanks for sharing.

Your very welcome. Make no mistake about it, much of the country is very third world, but it is still beautiful.

By the time you leave, you will realize a great truth about Jamaica.....

Bob Marley is to Jamaica what Brett Favre (was) to Green Bay. He is everywhere! And if I hear Red Red Wine or Buffalo Soldier or even the Big Booty song one more time, I may just scream. Or at least get a headache.

So true, of most the resort areas of Mexico as well, leave the resort and it is third world and scary.

The video quality is not the greatest because it is nighttime but that is why I took it, to capture some of the sounds. The insect and bird sounds become deafening when the sun goes down!

Wild ride through the jungle. Driving about 30 mph down a one lane road with a sheer cliff on one side for the majority of it. A nice Sunday stroll!

Been on a horse for the first time in my life for less than two minutes. So what do I do? Hold on with one hand while operating a camcorder with the other. Thank goodness it was a nice horse! (Donna was her name.)

Negative. While you are there, ya might hope over the mountain and do some community service in Hati. It might ease your conscience for the fun you have in the DR, but no guarantees. I know your conscience in likely a tough cookie! :)

I am amazed that Haiti suffered so much destruction, whereas the Dominican Republics resorts were open a month or two later. I think that speaks to the general level of corruption (and building codes) between the two "nations".

The Dominican Republic is a bit more modern -and I'll have a boat load of pictures to post soon. :)I've always heard that if you visit either place, you should definitely stay in an all-inclusive because the islands are dangerous. I think we like to run around and explore too much - we always want to see where the locals eat, etc. That's why we've never opted to go to either of these places.

Did you find that to be true in Jamaica?

You did not want to step foot outside of the resort in Jamaica. Day OR night. LOL
