LONDON – The surviving pages of the world's oldest Christian Bible have been reunited — digitally.

The early work known as the Codex Sinaiticus has been housed in four separate locations across the world for more than 150 years. Starting Monday, it became available for perusal on the Web at http://www.codexsinaiticus.org so scholars and other readers can get a closer look at what the British Library calls a "unique treasure."

I recall studying about the Sinaiticus in a manuscript evidence research time I made. It was named so after having been found in a Mount Sinai monastery where it had evidently been used to start fires. It is one of the two "Oldest Manuscripts" in existence (the footnotes of many modern versions mention these two oldest MSS when they indicate what and what not was found in those early texts that are printed in whatever particular version the note is mentioned), the other being Codex Vaticanus, which was found on a shelf in the Vatican, with unknown origin. It is one of the two catholic manuscripts used in most modern versions of the Bible, aside t=from the Textus Receptus from which the KJV was translated.

I think it is belongs to a strain of texts that are catholic and were subject to interpolation, due to the philosophies held by the men behind the Catholic strain, but it has definite historical significance.

A couple of thoughts on the Sinai manuscript.

It is said to be older than existing manuscripts. Manuscripts were used and worn out and replaced. Why was this one not worn out? Did someone know it was not reliable and therefore was not used? Why was it in a trash can? Did someone know it was not reliable?

EXACTLY.

Oldest does not mean best. But some scholars rely on thinking it does. The oldest denomination is the Catholic Church. Is it the best? I am not denominational but I like other denominations more than the RCC.
