...however, I'd like the ask a question and this seems to be the best place.

I started going to a non-denominational church about 5 years ago, and I was pretty involved for a while. But I fell out of the faith halfway through high school. About 7 months ago, I realized that I was destroying myself with the way I was living my life. So I decided to rededicate myself to God. The first person I told was my friend Gabe (who I had always had a bit of a crush on) and he helped keep me accountable. Two months later, he and I started dating. He attends a UPC church. While the non-denominational church had some Charismatic background, I wasn't really exposed to speaking in tongues until I started visiting my boyfriends church. I understood what speaking in tongues was about, so it didn't freak me out or anything, but I was still against it in my own mind. I thought it was just something that God didn't have planned for me. I was still grounded in my non-denominational, Trinitarian beliefs.
But on April 19th, 2009, as I sat the night service at my boyfriend's church, God started to work in me. I received the Holy Ghost that night and I knew that something in my life had just shifted. After that I had a bit of an identity crisis, where I didn't quite know what to believe anymore. So I started reading the Bible, and one Wednesday morning, as I read through Acts, it was all there in black and white. Baptism in Jesus' name was right there in front of me. It wasn't some great mystery. It was right there.
Since then, I've had some extreme revelations about God's oneness in prayer and in my reading of the Scripture, though, being raised Trinitarian, I still have trouble wrapping my head around it.
I've said all of that just to say this: Should I get re-baptized? I was baptized in the titles when I was 13, and I was sincere about it at the time. I have since come to understand that the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost are all Jesus and I haven't felt any conviction to get re-baptized. However, this is something that my boyfriend asked me about last night and it got me thinking. I'd like to hear some of the opinions of the people on this forum.

God has revealed truth to you - and you've accepted what you have been taught by Him - He did the same for me and I didn't think twice about being re-baptized in His Name. I had come back home to Him in more truth than I'd ever known before - listen to Him thru His Word. My opinion is yes.

Re-baptism is the right choice. It does not mean your former experience and baptism meant nothing, but, God is showing you a better path.

He sees your sincerity.

I was from a similar background as you, Santachica. God spoke to you through His word. Get baptized in Jesus' name.

What do you feel like God is telling you to do?

Thanks for the replies. I don't feel lead to get re-baptized, but I know that sometimes our minds are closed to God's voice at times. I think I'm going to pray about it for a bit and then discuss it with the youth pastor at the church.

Santachica, welcome to the forum. I also was baptized in the titles and had a trinitarian background before learning about baptism in Jesus name. I was baptized in Jesus name in order to obey the scriptures and it was the best decision I ever made. I felt clean and reborn after baptism in Jesus name even though I was baptized in the titles. It will be the best experience besides receiving the holy ghost.

Here's an example of being baptized again from the book of Acts:
Act 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
Act 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Act 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Act 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Act 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Act 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Act 19:7 And all the men were about twelve.

sneep, sneep... I still have trouble wrapping my head around it. I've said all of that just to say this: Should I get re-baptized? I was baptized in the titles when I was 13...

I was first (voluntarily) baptized in the titles F/S/HG. A few months later I heard about Jesus' name baptism (over the radio) along with reference to Acts 2:38. Checked my my Bible, and sure enough, it seemed to be saying the same. So, following Sunday I found a church whose marquee happened to say "Jesus Name" and hoped they would baptize me in Jesus' name. Yep! When I was rebaptized, I didn't "feel" any more born again than I already was, but that was not the issue!

Consider the exchange between John the Baptist and Jesus. "You should be baptizing me, Jesus."

"Just do it John, this fulfills all righteousness."

If you're not convinced by Jesus' obedience to something that John the Baptist figured Jesus didn't even need, then good luck in talking to your "Youth Pastor."
