"It seems the latest fad among the “holiness police” is to send FB friend requests for the sole purpose of scouring photos so they can then hold cabals to assassinate both character and ministries-(aka “lamenting lack of standards”)

How truly frightening it must be to live in a siege “hold the fort” mentality, sitting around wondering who will be the next to be picked off.

How sad to reduce the concept to Holiness before God to compliance with a rulebook based on 50 year old North American “distinctives”.

Lord forgive them and grant them peace and a true understanding of Your love and holiness, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen"

May I introduce these others to FB privacy controls?

Man, I keep hoping one of the holiness officers would befriend me! I have a WHOLE BUNCH of Jamaican pictures I'd love to show them and have plastered on the next issue of whatever conservative rag that wishes to publish them. :)

I do limit who can see some of my photo albums, mainly because I don't like the idea of strangers viewing pictures of my kids.

However, that isn't the point. What kind of person takes the time to go through facebook and myspace albums so they can report back to pastors or peers any misdeeds or controversy?

That in and of itself is quite the attitude problem. :coffee2

And if I had enough time in my life to straighten them all out, I certainly would. So, for individuals I don't know too well, don't trust too well, they are certainly restricted in what they can see.

I would pick a different word than uptight, lol. However, as far as the ya just gotta have fun with them, that's my job.

:thumbsup

I clearly differentiate between men of conviction and holiness police though.

You big show off, you just want them to all see your huge biceps and 6 pack. :ursofunny

I agree with Miss Brat. I restrict my photo albums on Facebook to friends only because I don't really see the need for people that I don't know to peruse through my pics.

First of all, there is an obvious disagreement on what is appropriate. Secondly, you are obviously missing the point, no flaunting involved. Friend request followed by searching for something wrong. Hence Holiness Police.

It's actually "Randy" and it is not immodest (in our opinion) and presented ONLY as a link (meaning it takes the effort to actually click on it).
(And in Jamaica, we were far more modest than many others!)

But..... it is in the spirit of providing fodder for those looking for ammo to bring to their superiors in a "na na na na naa naa!" sort of way.

Oh, I don't know... I have found it pretty easy to predict people. First, look at who they admire, then look at who they consider their mentor; then look at where they get their spiritual inspiration.... then you can pretty well predict how they will respond.

All in good humor folks,

Well, on the thread where I posted several of our vacation pics I did mention that I was very careful in what I selected and heavily edited (cropped) a few others.
The link I gave in THIS thread had ample warning! :)

Makes me wish I could publish an application on this board where I posted a link that said "Warning! Do not click here! Porn! Porn! Porn!", and then post the names of the people, in real time, as they clicked on it for all to see with big letters that said GOTCHYA!. LOL

By the way, the link I posted was NOT porn, but a reference to the subject of the thread. An example of pics that an UC would see who tried to befriend me on Facebook (for the purpose of getting dirt).

But there is another side....

We had a young guy who posted pics of his drunken b-day party. Kid was our drummer and everyone thought was "living holy." But pics of holding bottles of whiskey and being hung on by girls about half dressed, he was shirltess...needless to say with the judgmental spirit in churches it almost destroyed the kid, he was talked about for weeks, I hated what happened. I would have contained it and handled it private, but he posted the pics and everyone found out. He is going to another apostolic church now and doing better.

We have another teenage girl who posted some sexual type pics and was talking about boys had comments like, "u ho" and "OMG he's so hot", "I would do him" Her mother had no idea. She was a perfect angel in her eyes.

I have a facebook/myspace pg. and there is nothing there to hide. I really don't care who views.

That being said....for an org. to dig into FB and investigate their preachers and prospects....is sick....I would walk away and tell them all where they could stick it.

Employers use it often for screening candidates! It's the new HR craze! If it's not appropriate for you soon-to-be boss to see it, you may not want to post your exhibitionism to the world. And that's just simple common sense... wisdom.

I am a pretty transparent person, but I did have a few second thoughts in the beginning about being facebook friends with people from AFF.

Though I am open on this site about what I do (and don't) believe, I also do my best to follow both the rules of the forum, and my own conscience (when it comes to not knowingly offending others ).

However, my facebook friends are a hodgepodge of friends and family from all different religions / lifestyles. And I made a decision in the beginning that I wasn't going to censor myself there.

Of course, I don't exactly think that anything I said or did on facebook or anywhere else would surprise anyone :D

I've never had to have something removed or deleted. The internet is PUBLIC......hell-o?

Nothing wrong with restricting viewing abilities of others IMO if that is the way you want to protect your privacy. I just protect my privacy another way......I keep it private! :D

Great point! And there is even scripture that teaches the very same thing!

Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

2Ti 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all [men], apt to teach, patient,
2Ti 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Yet a couple more scriptures conveniently overlooked by many of the finger pointers. I leads one to speculate on them a little:

1. If they were were really after the propagation of truth, might they actually follow these scriptures?

2. Perhaps truth is not what is important, but is is rather pride. I am right, you are wrong. My identity and self esteem is not tied up in scripture but in my traditions.

Just some thoughts.

None of us have room to point the finger at anyone else. We all have to work out our own soul salvation with fear and trembling.

concerning the "holiness standards" held dear and taught by many:

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Isaiah 29:13

6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:
15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

This is a problem. It is very difficult to listen if your mouth is always open. Those who are always on the prowl to catch those who's toes inch off the line are too busy condemning others to hear what thus saith the Word. I have learned that it is very hard to listen when your mouth is always open.

Also, it is impossible to learn if you already think you know it ALL!

My daughter used to have a serious problem with being a tattle tale. She would tell on her brother for the least little thing in order to get him into trouble. Unfortunately, the root of the problem was when she was making someone else look bad, she thought she was looking good. We put a stop to that quick.

The internet gestapo wants to shift the spotlight on others so they can continue to work their evil in the dark. The Bible says that things done in secret will be brought to light. One can only hope that the light shines on their evil soon.

I think they want to discredit ministers because once discredited that leaves more people turning to them... that's more money in their pockets.

The true mirror is, of course, God's Word. But that can be very inconvenient. It might cause the viewer to humble himself and be convicted to shape up his act. It is so much more fun to look at others and harp on them to change up their act.
