Last night I texted some of my friends that are currently at PEAK in Tulsa. They informed me that attendance at PEAK on the first night was around 5000 people, which it has increased a substantial amount since last year. Last years attendance was about 1200.

How many are registered? Is there a live cast to follow for the meeting? 5,000? Hmm. On the first night? Really?

Wow, from 5000 to 3500 to 1800. Shoot, I went to West Monroe a couple years ago and they counted 435 youth in about three minutes. Why couldn't they just have someone count?

Connected to others on Facebook that are there from other churches, and getting different numbers there to. Don't if we will ever get an official count.
Doesn't matter. Wish them the best.

It seems like this thing is just going to be like the question asked about “how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop middle” we’ll just never know…lol

I think it's just preaching/singing and they're also having their national bible quiz tournament.

Someone just shot PM'd me the link, although everything is over now. I just checked to see if any archives. Sounds like Jonathan Stringfellow is the keynote speaker. Maybe tomorrow night is their grand finale?
No video (surprise here), but the link I have is HolyGhostRadio.com. Is that a WPF website or just a random saints? Don't know.

The night services Bro. Jonathan Stringfellow from Arlington, TX is the speaker. Thursday-day sessions was Nathaniel Morton, and the Day speaker today was Myles Young.
The Official attendance for Thursday evening (according to WPF leadership) was right at 4500. The 1800 figure is the number that participated in the lock in last night (Thursday) after the service. They are expecting well over 5000 tonight.
The services can be heard on http://holyghostradio.com which is owned by a brother in CA. It is not a WPF entity.

Listening now, don't know who is speaking yet (it is not Bro. Stringfellow,my former pastor BTW), but he is talking about some program in the WPF, HOPE CORP, likening it to the Mormons who have required service. Young folks will be required to pray 30 minutes a day and fast 1 day a week.
Personally, I hate the idea. Right now it is being pitched as voluntary, but the speaker apperently feels like the day should come that it would be required, like the mormons.
BishopH, correct me if I'm wrong.

That's the preacher from San Diego area I think right now.
What didn't you like about the program they were talking about? The fact that is sounded obligatory. I don't think it'd be a bad thing to make it a norm.

Here we go with a offering. Any California money in this house?!!! Any Texas money?!!! How bout them rich Ohians?!!! How bout Maine?!! After each state the organ plays.
"I heard yall didn't know how to give an offering."
I want on record as being against this type of offering. Just let the people give without screaming and such.
I once went to the America on Fire meeting in Dallas, and a big preacher was up there telling people if they didn't give their families would be wrecked. He went on threatening for about ten minutes. Pentecostals all over got up and gave. It was ridiculous, and I say ungodly.
Later on that night, as Bro. Mark Morgan was preaching, a black lady, wearing pants, walked up in the middle of the preaching (he wasn't preaching on giving, he was preaching on the holy Ghost), she came up and threw money on the platform, after that people were giving all over the place, without having been threatened.
That is how offering should be. Not necessaily lacking a formal anouncement to take one, but minus the "Billy Mays phase".

Maybe the preacher is moon walking and wearing one glove while he is preaching. Since it's not televised we don't know.

I like the music, I don't like it when people hollor "give God crazy praise, and just play the instuments super fast with no words and tell people to hollar." The music is good enough without all that.

Yeah, their music sounds really good.
Jason, he's just exhorting them to worship. I have no problem with that. Shout beats are usually shout killers, but no problem with all that.

You're probably right. I have had people who used to tell us in the congregation that if you weren't running around the church you were dead, didn't have the Holy Ghost, etc. I'm not against running or shouting, but don't like to be told to.

Loud music, fast music, and hollering can be a substitute for the Spirit's anointing.

I have more scripture for making a "loud noise" and defining the words for praise as exuberant and boisterous than I do being quiet. It's okay for our churches to be a place of excitement and party. You can have your funeral home.
Some just feel they need to be anointed to dance, shout, run, clap, sing... that's not Biblical.

He's off right now. He is mighty. But he came to serve. He's not judging the world right now. Doesn't mean he's effeminate.
Jason B
07-24-2009, 07:54 PM
He's not preaching from that angle, he is basically preaching against the mindset that some people have that God is weak and begging people to serve Him. His point is that God's power is not exauhsted, He's still a great and mighty God. And not only that, but He is a God who is not against you,but for you. This theme is common in His preaching.

I do like what He said about if you come here to show off your new suit, you came to the wrong conference.
I haven't gone to camp meeting in 4 years now, becasue it is more of a fashion show and popularity contest than seeking God.

For real, if you can't get a date, find God, or show off your new suit at your local church, you might as well hit PEAK once a year. Anything else would be uncivilized.
Here is a link to some short video from PEAK 09. Must have been taken with a still camera that has video capability as I am sure they would have confiscated one of those evil video cameras!
I was surprised to note a video screen an the front. The picture is too blurry to tell what is on it but I am assuming only the words to songs and perhaps scriptures during the sermons.

I see a parallel here with the Church of Christ holding the position that instrumental music in worship is a sin but using a tuning fork or pitch pipe to find the right key for the choir.
I guess it's alright to sin a little to get started.
Yep, video is a sin but it's okay to sin just a little to make sure everyone knows the words to the songs.

I think it is very well known that highly placed persons in the WPF have no problems with using videos. Check out a church web site or two. I know for a fact that even some of the pastors whose church sites have no videos on them, personally view videos and that their families post videos on their blog sites. I am not accusing them of doing something unscrupulous, for I personally see nothing wrong with video for such purposes.

What is it with Mark Morgan and people throwing money around? The guy really has a gift. I spent some time with him once; before service, after service, all through the service - for a week.
He had come in from out of town and there's no way that he could have set that up. Next thing I know some woman is dumping the contents of her purse on the altar and a crowd gathers to do the same. And he was just preaching - not even about giving. Took us forever to get all the coins and bills collated, the checks sorted.
I told the elder that I didn't know if we should have this guy come back. Hard to have church when people just start dumping money out in a big ol' pile. Takes a shop vac just to clean it all up.
