I love living by the ocean.....but even then prices can be pretty high.
I went to a local place to get my favorite Halibut steak...grilled. It's usually about 12-13$....it was instead 18 dollars!
Needless to say I settled for glorified fish stick, fried shrimp and coleslaw :bliss

If it's fresh Halibut it's probably just as expensive. It's the market prices. This place really really really is good.

I'll pay $18 or a steak but not for a fish dinner.

Good luck finding fresh Salmon around here that that is not farm raised and pumped full of hormones, anti-biotics and red dye

Felicity happens to live in an area where finding fresh salmon is not a problem.
Lucky her.

Same here...unless I am in a fancy restaraut and it's orange roughy with Imperial shrimp and there is a roaring fire going lol
That's why I settled for the glorified fish stick instead

It is with salmon. I never see salmon that isn't farm raised salmon. Sometimes too I see farm raised trout but usually it's not....
Almost all salmon in the stores and even at the restaraut is farm raised :-(
Yeah, I had a similar problem the other day. The waiter told me the swordfish was the night's special. I asked how much, and he said 23 dollars. I said, "In that case, I'll have the shrimp." I paid 9 bucks for about 8 beer-battered, jumbo coconut shrimp. Ugh!

It's usually a lighter color when its farm raised.

Most of the food we eat has been pumped full of something or other. You can get wild salmon here and on the east coast too. You pay a little more for it. I'm just not so sure that wild salmon is all that chemical free or that much better for a person.

It's fish with little swords in the meat...
Like Phil Jones says, it's like swallowing broken glass.

I don't even think swordfish was on the menu.....maybe I just didn't look since I wanted Halibut...the other cheaper choices did not sound that great, though I almost went with the trout, but I don't trust trout to not have any bones in it :-)
dats one bony fish...nuttin like some BDWs we see nowadays :bliss

They add dye to them to make them pink. They are quite pale due to all the anti-biotics they pump into them

We've got Bar-B-Que Crabs in my part of the world and one place in particular has the very best in the world. (NOTE: They are not barbqued like meat but fried in some serious Cajun spices.)
Now, I don't know about swordfish and such there in California but I can tell you that when I was there for the camp last year I slipped off to Pismo Beach and found what may well be the best clam chowder on Earth! Was SO good that I sent my kids back the last day to get me some more.
Life is good.
