Just heard that Boris Yeltsin passed away.
You may remember that he was head of Russia after Gorbachev.
He came to Vancouver with Bill Clinton in '93 for a summit.

It will be interesting how history treats him.

This Russian leader had many flaws as have many great men in history. Despite those flaws it was his bravery in standing up to the Communist Politburo when they tried to overthrow Gorbachov that caused Communism in the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union itself to collapse.

I remember getting goosebumps watching BY walk out of the White House (theirs, not ours) and up to one of the tanks the Politburo had sent to overpower him and the rebellious lawmakers. He shook hands with the Tank commander and within a matter of moments the Russian military had switched sides and were standing behind BY.

It has not been a smooth road for the former Soviet Union since then but the evil of Communism was defeated and he was a big part of that.

BY was surely an interesting charactor.

when he could have been the most powerful dictator on the planet, he instead choose to liberate a fourth of the worlds population from the tyranny of sovet communism.

It is in deed a sad day for the world.
