Romans 8;23 ......but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly awaiting the adoption, the redemption of our body
1 Corinth 15:22 For as in Adam all die ,even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order, Christ the first fruits,afterwards those who are Christs at His coming.

It appears to me that the importance of firstfruits has to do with the transforming of us from mortal to immortal.
