With apologies to Lance Appleton; this was a GREAT song!
"I'm a one God apostolic tongue talkin' liberated born again believer in the power of JEsus' name. I've been washed in the blood, sanctified by the Spirit, sir, and I suggest you do the same. I was set free at a pentecostal altar on my knees would you pardon me if I'm not ashamed. To be a one God apostolic tongue talkin' liberated born again believer in the power of JEsus' name!
(at the peace rally).....well I did not intend to interfere 'til someone started screamin' in my ear. I laid both hands on his head, and prayed while he turned red, and the other kids said, "Let's get out of here!"

I had a tape with that song on it. I always felt that song was a bit "in-your-face" and glorying over what others are not what we are.

We had a UPC neighbor that did this on the Guitar and she was great! Yet it is a kids song for sure.

Hmm have that song from the UPC Tupelo Children's Mansion on vinyl. Not exactly sure who wrote the song. But it was definitely from the late 70's.

However, you are singing it wrong.
"I'm a One God, Apostolic, Tongue Talk'n, Holy Roller, Born Again, Heaven Bound, Believer in the liberating power of Jesus Name. I was set free at a Pentecostal Alter, on my knees, if you pardon me, I'm not ashamed, to be a One God, Apostolic, Tongue Talk'n, Holy Roller, Born Again, Heaven Bound, Believer in the liberating power of Jesus Name!."

As it was written in the Lat 60's early 70 the first verse was about a peace rally.
"Well when one day I downtown, a bunch of kids were gathered there, throwing beer cans at the law and shouting peace. Well, I did not intend to interfere, till someone started screaming in my ear. Well, I laid both hands on his head and prayed while he turned red and the other kids said lets get out of here."

Second Verse is about fitting in a school
"Well, I'm not one to testify at school. People might say that I'm not cool. But when one day I had enough of that evolution stuff, and stood right up and said God's Word is true, Amen. Well the teacher did not know what to do. It seemed like he was shaking in his shoes. Although though he knew I meant no harm, he took me by the arm and said, Son, what religion are you?"

The bridge says something about "Holy Wine". But I have not listened to that song in about 15 years.

I was set free at a pentecostal alter on my kness, won't you pard'n me if Im not ashamed...."

That's how we learned it too, Prax.

Funny, when we sang that song, we were so PROUD to be able to sing it. It meant that we were "set apart"; "something special"; "we must mean more to God than others because after all, look at what He's given us".

Interesting to see where we've come from to where we are today. Not saying whether it's right or whether it's wrong. Just saying it's interesting.:clock

Sorry if this post brings back back memories! lol
Actually I wanted to see what kinds of reactions folks would have to it for a couple of reasons. Been an activist in the 70s and understood the irony of Appleton's line, "throwing beer cans at the law and shouting, "Peace! Peace!". The hypocrisy of the peace activists of that era was staggering.
Other reason was that it's a breezy song, and the good ol' boy establishment at the time really didn't know how Lance (and his musical genre of folk/rock) was supposed to "fit" in the system. He had an original style that was appealing to me (I liked his harmonica playing) and was definitely non-conforming.
I have wondered what became of him.

How about praising each other?
1Co 11:1 Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.
1Co 11:2 But I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and you keep the doctrines as I delivered them to you.
