Did anyone else receive this letter from Bro Haney?

From paragraph four comes the following exerpt.

"At the winter General Board meeting in February, Bro. Russell Wolf, District Superintendent of Nebraska, shared with many of us his involvement in a great revival he reported among a messianic Jewish group. He followed up with several phone calls, and many emails were circulated which continued to report on this occurance. Over several weeks, many of us became concerned by our inability to verify these reports, especially after possible descrepancies were brought to light. Finally, I asked a committee of General Board members, led by Bro. Russo of Texas, to travel to Nebraska and investigate these reports. Last week, following their meetings, they informed me that they could find no independent verification for this information. We regret this is the case, and will no longer be sharing these reports with anyone. We urge you to do the same."

Maybe someone will come along with the report: "it's true, they just didn't check with the right sources..."

Hmmmm . . . like I said all along. I knew from the first time I read it that it wasn't true.

Ah well. It's a sad thing.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else. Are there any UPC ministers that can confirm this? I asked my brother, he hasn't received anything and he looked on another forum that's for UPC ministers only and so far nothing's been verified there.

I received it. It was one paragraph in a broader letter from Brother Haney to all ministers.

Earlier today I received an email from a young man (age 47) who pastors a small independent Apostolic Church here locally. I was his Sunday School teacher at the local ALJC church when he was a teenager. He and his younger brother were friends with our three sons back when they were teenagers and all going to the same church.

The name at the bottom of page two was David Showalter and he mentioned just coming from a meeting with Bro. Wolf (D.S. of Nebraska) where this was discussed. It mentions that a visitor came to Bro. Wolf's church earlier this year and that in 2004 when he had been there before he had understood what Bro. Wolf was saying when he was praying in Hebrew. It mentions 4 congregations of Messianic Jews being baptized in Jesus' name and over 100 receiving the Holy Ghost baptism while coming out of the water. Then the next day, March 3, 2007 over 1000 Jews from 5 congregations receiving the HGB.

I had seen discussion here or on some other forum about this but this was the first time I had seen the email.

I replied to his email with the quote from Bro. Haney's letter in the post above and told him that the information in the email might not be true.

One of my brothers is a UPCI pastor and said a minister in his church mentioned to him this morning that he received it. Jim said he hasn't yet, but it may be at the Post Office with the church mail...he's going to check tomorrow.

The inference is that the DS of that district gave incorrect information. The KH letter specifically says the DS was involved in the situation.

That makes me wonder how someone directly involved in the situation did not have correct information.

When the GS sends a letter out and says something you reported has no foundation in truth I would think that would spell big trouble for you.

My thoughts exactly. My brother was quite concerned about this...

I'll only say I've known the DS for many years and sadly am not surprised at this news. I could say more, but that would get me in trouble for tearing down the ministry. *grin*

Well, they didn't exactly call the DS a liar, but pretty much :)
