Do you think it's wise for preachers to use members of their families for sermon illustrations ?

:rolleyes2 I don't know if it's wise, per se, but as a pastor's kid, I've become accustomed to it over the years.

Sometimes it would be down right embarrassing so I'm not in favor of it.

Depends. If it can be done without embarrassing them (too much ;)), and in good humor (in the family's opinion, not just the preacher's! :lol), then no problem. Trouble is, some preachers think they are good at this, but aren't.
I've heard it done many times. I don't think it's a wise thing to do. JMHO.
How about people in leadership (teacher, pastor's wife, etc) using things told to them by church members in "confidence" as illustrations? Yes, it happens on a regular basis.
I'm glad I learned this happened BEFORE I placed confidence in any of those people.

We all draw from life experiences, but I don't think it's a good idea.

It seem wise to me for ministers not to use their family for sermon illustrations as it could bred resentment in children.
