View Full Version : When does lying become lying?

Several years ago Rev B. E. Echols wrote a book about lying. When you finished reading the book, you were afraid to open your mouth ... afraid it might be considered a lie.

In today's society, it seems like lying has become a way of life for so many. Politicians have resorted to the game of lying like never before. President Nixon got in trouble for one lie, which eventually cost him his presidency. The current President seems to use lying daily. Now, liberals and Obama protectors, go ahead and get mad at me but there are scores of proven occasions where Pres. Obama has out and out not told the truth.

My next question is this... “When a liberal takes up for Obama in his lies does that make the liberal a liar, too?” Let me ask another question, "Shouldn't we be so very careful in how we take up for liars?"

Now you can get mad at me for asking, but how does God look at us? When does lying become lying to Him?

The Bible plainly tells us how God looks at lying. ...... Re 21:8* But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and ALL liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

I find it interesting that the scriptures said, “the fearful, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters and ALL liars shall have their part.....” Why was the emphasis on liars more severe than the rest of the guilty? (ALL!)

Do we unconsiciously lie? Example! Someone drives up at our home and we say to the family, “Oh no, look who just drove up. I don’t have time to mess with them! I wish they had not come by here!” Then we go to the door and open it saying, “Well hello! It’s so good to see you. Come on in! So glad you stopped by.”

So, my question again, “When does lying become lying?” Do people unconsciously think they can get by? God help me always speak the truth, in love! Just askin'

Using your example merely because you made it (conservatives lie too you know)...if Obama lies and his supporters know he is lying and they perpetuate the same lie, covering for him, then they are lying too

A Lie is an intentional attempt to deceive someone else

When I was young I had a serious issue with lying. I couldn't lie without raping my conscience. Today it is easier to lie but it's not a practice. There's the occasional "white lie," but even that bothers me to a great degree. When I am in a serious conversation and I can tell that someone is lying to me I make the statement "Tell me the truth whatever the truth is. Lying to me upsets me more than the truth that you think I don't want to hear." Somewot off topic but not completely off topic, this ties in with speaking idle words and foolish jesting, something that has been on my mind a whole lot lately. But hey, can't be serious at all these days or YOU have some sort of a problem.

Praxeas, you're right, conservatives do lie as well, but probably not in shielding or covering for Obama. But, they do lie as well, maybe even in trying to put Obama down!

But, my questions I guess are these, "Is there any concern about lying anymore? Is it an accepted thing to do? To what extent do we get by with it? Are we fooling ourselves?"

There should be a huge concern. Trust or lack of Trust is one of the biggest issues our nation faces.

Youth don't trust the police. Many of us don't trust politicians anymore based on the lies of other politicians. Nations can't trust nations. Husbands and wives can't trust each other. Kids cheat on tests.

Lack of trust is one of the reasons for breakdown in society.

But, that lack of trust in the world today goes beyond lying don't you think? Lying certainly is a part of the problem but the lack of trust, I think, goes far beyond lying.
What you say?

BT, this is a great subject.

One of the biggest forms of lying in the World is done over the Pulpit. When we say, "God told me", we have lied. Whenever something is said that cannot be verified, it's a lie until proven.

IMO, Religion is a drug which feeds the lying monster in all of us. We throw people in Hell, but the fact is we don't know if they went to Hell. What's interesting in Faith is the lie grows with anger. When people don't "Line Up", we go deeper and deeper into the spectral dimension no one can see for a conclusion to the matter.

Faith becomes no different than Politics; when numbers dwindle (Lost votes), the lying goes ballistic and the innocent are condemned in a desperate attempt to save the sinking ship.

Presumption is one of the biggest sins in Church, and people feed off of gossip like it’s pure fact. We hide behind hairdos, conservative ethics, and big name Celebrities in Faith, all while the lies drip from our itching ears and minds, where the Witch hunt never ends.

This reminds me of Denver Stanford! He uses this analogy when teaching his series, I am a SoulWinner.

1 John 2:21
I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

Could we say that a lie is the absence of truth!

There is a scripture that says that he that knoweth to do good and doeth
it not, to him it is sin. Could we say to him that knoweth the truth and doeth
not truth liveth a lie. Just a thought!

Really I would say this is a lie! Do you not believe God talks to His people today?

And where do you get it is a lie until proven truth? It is suppose to be truth until proven a lie. What gives?

First sentence is nuts. Second I agree with. 3rd doesn't make sense to me. 4th ????

Not sure what your beef is here, but doesn't see where it applies to lying, but then this is AFF where not many stay on topic.:happydance

Imo, people use "God told me" way too casually. Most can't discern the difference between a prophecy and a fortune cookie, and they drop "God told me" every time they get goose pimples when the wind blows.

Abraham lied for self preservation. Rahab did it to preserve the lives of others. They lied to the enemy

Someone saying "God spoke to me" and God didn't is not necessarily lying.

It's a lie to intentionally tell people or mislead people into thinking you heard from God when you know you did not

On the other hand if someone believes they DID hear from God and did not, they are not lying as much as they are mislead

Thanks for all the responses. On another thread, "Speaking In Tongues" thread, someone mentioned people telling seekers what to say and then tell them, "you got it, that's it, just turn loose, hold on, that's it! You got it!"

Is that lying? Will God hold all those people accountable who have told folks they had the Holy Ghost when they didn't?

Let me say one more time, I hope without sounding redundant, that I am amazed that some Apostolic on AFF are not upset with the lies of the President. They never condemn his lies and get mad when someone else states the obvious. They are quick to condemn homosexuality, and other gross sins, but as I quoted earlier, the Bible says "All liars will have their part in the lake of fire."

Does lying bother you? There are many many more post about a "woman preacher" and the concern of some about them preaching, but not much concern about lying and liars.

Enough said by me...
