Different Prophecy Teaching

With the earthquakes and tsunamis in the news and the various wars in various countries, some think these things point to a "time of the end." We have folk on here who are preterist, pre-trib, mid-trib, post trib, dispensationalists, covenanters, replacement theologians, etc.

On facebook, David K. Bernard recently said:
"We must maintain genuine humility in studying prophecy. It is the nature of prophecy that some things remain obscure or ambiguous."

1. Do you agree with this statement?

2. Do you think a person can be a preterist or a dispensationalist, or a pre-tribber and still make it to Heaven?

Always maintain humility and open mindedness that we may be wrong. I have never seen people as obstinate and stubborn to change views as in the issue of prophecy.

I believe every word in the Bible is not meant to remain ambiguous. God wishes us to receive understanding and be blessed while hearing the Revelation. That does not mean, contrary to some opinions, that there is a blessing in hearing someone read it without ever being able to learn it. Jesus spoke of Parables and said we have to have ears to hear it, or to UNDERSTANDING AND RECEIVE IT. It is only our fleshliness that causes prophecy to remain ambiguous.



2. Do you think a person can be a preterist or a dispensationalist, or a pre-tribber and still make it to Heaven?

Yes. Salvation is not based upon how we interpret futuristic prophecy.

1.) Humility, yes. You let them know that your opinion is only a speculation. I will quote my aunt: "Revelation is wriitten in an obscure manner to keep humans from runnnig around in fear."

2.) Yes. We already know enough to be saved.
In heaven we will "understand it all by and by."

When Christ comes to take us home, we will know everything there is to know about eschatology on that day. Though I lean post-trib, but also am leaning more and more partial preterist in some points, it is not a salvation issue, and never will be. Though I do believe that dispensationalists are as wrong as jelly on a T-Bone steak, I am not in the business of damning someone to Hell for being wrong. :D

I retired from the General Electric Company on March 1, 1998 after 32 years of service. For over 20 years I attended Bible Study groups that met during lunch time. Because of different jobs I held and different buildings I worked in, I was part of several Bible Study groups.

The last group I was with was made up of Lutheran (Missouri Synod); a person who went to a Church of Christ (but he had spoken with tongues); a Baptist; a member of the Church of God (Cleveland, TN); a member of an Assembly of God Church; and me. At that time I was going to a Vineyard Church. For several months we read and discussed the Book of Revelation, a chapter a week. We had diverse views but did not argue or put one another down. We all agreed with something that Jack Hayford had said regarding different views on the rapture (pre, mid, and post trib). Jack Hayford said "Whenever He comes, I go."

We've hashed and rehashed 1 step and 3 step. No amount of steps we've discussed mentions needing to believe certain things about the end time, though I do know people who'll disfellowship anyone who doesn't agree with them.

Just a few days ago my wife and I watched two programs that we had previously recorded on TBN. We don't ordinarily watch the channel but recently saved two programs. One was on "One World Government" by Irvin Baxter. The other was with Tim LaHaye, Rick Joyner, and Irvin Baxter discussing their differing views. Everyone was civil and respectful of each other.

Irwin Baxter predicted the beginning of the tribulation back in the 90's. It never came true??
He also teaches some stuff that is way out there!!But of course that doesn't seem to matter much today with most Christians. They are following ever ring of the bell.
