Simple question. Or is it? What is the real reason that you want your church to grow; why do you want the numbers to go up?

Bragging rights? So there will be more money in the offerings? (If it's more money just pray for everyone to get a pay raise and they will be happier, along with the pastor.)

Just wonderin' what your thoughts might be.

Because every number is a soul! We want to reach as many of the lost as we can in the time we have allotted.

The reason I want our church to grow is because each person who gets saved is now on his/her way to heaven and is part of the Body of Christ. They don't have to stay in our local church. They can go anywhere else they feel OK with.

Great response Sherri and Sam. Sam, I especially like the last line. I'm involved in some ministering that probably helps other churches more than it helps mine. So am I concerned about the growth in the kingdom or growth in my church? Now don't misunderstand, I certainly am interested in our church growth but I sincerely want it to be for the right reason.

The scriptures saith Acts 2:47 "And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved". We are not talking about a local "church" building. The Body of Christ is the Church.
Col 1:18 "And he is the head of the body, the church"

Depends if your talking about the Spiritual Church vs the local "community" church?
Everyone that is "added" to the "local community BUILDING church" is not going to make it to heaven, but those that the "Lord added" to the church is different. :)
