It's been a dozen years since this film was made. I like to watch the Waco documentaries from time to time to remind myself that on any given day... it could be me.

If government or public opinion should decide my beliefs are a little wonky then there go I.

Yeah, I guess. If you held people ransom and stock piled weapons. Or do you think that was just an excuse for religious persecution?

You shouldn't have a problem unless you start stockpiling guns!

It is my opinion that the second amendment gives us the right to own weapons to defend ourselves against our government if it becomes too large or too intrusive.

I'm just saying that stockpiling guns is a way to get the governments attention that you might have something up your sleeve. Otherwise, they'll probably leave you alone.

Crazy cult-like beliefs and followers + stockpiling guns = asking for trouble!

Some types of weapons have restrictions.
Waco could have been avoided if the authorities had just taken David Koresh when he was in or around town, instead of busting into the compound.

I think that arming yourself with an arsenal of weapons which include illegal automatic weapons and deflowering 11 year old girls is a bit "wonky" myself. You aren't planning any of this, are you?
The government response was typically "Liberal" and went too far. Burning children to death is not the best way to keep them out of David Koresh's bed. But even given that, Koresh & Co. were beyond "wonky" and represented a real danger.

It's surely not the governments opinion.

Even if they had taken him alone, his followers had been instructed to do the same thing they did. I don't think there was a good outcome expected either way.

As I recall, this was the turning point after which I became totally convinced Janet Reno was the Wacko.

I think Janet Reno took the fall for Billy Bob Clinton.
Although Janet Reno had done some pretty goofy things in Florida regarding children and the way they were being cared for and raised before she went to Washington DC
I lived 90 miles away in Austin when those nutcases were around. Paranoid people tend to forget that those folks had a ton of illegal weapons stockpiled and there were allegations of child abuse (proven that Koresh was sleeping with underage teenage girls).
Blaming the Federal Government on their deaths is like blaming a women who is raped because she is pretty. David Koresh and his followers alone were responsible for the deaths that happened.
My only problem with the Federal Government is that they waited way too long to move in a forceful way.
The year after it happened I met one of the ATF guys who was part of the team that tried to breach the compound. He was the one you saw climb on the roof with a ladder and get shot by a Davidian as he was trying to enter a window.
I hate what happened to the innocent children involved but I have no sympathy for the adult nuts.
You do have to hand it to David Koresh. Any man who can convnce other men that they should live in central texas with no air conditioning, get up at 5 am for exercices, and not have sex with their wives, all while Koresh himself had the only air conditioned room in the place, slept til noon, and had sex with all of their wives. well....that guy is one of the best salesmen that ever lived!
