Hello,
I just recently moved to Houston and am looking for an apostolic church. I was raised United Pentecostal and am looking for something similar. However, I don't care about the denomination. I am looking for the following:
1) There is one God who made Himself known in 3 separate ways
2) Baptism must be done by immersion in the name of Jesus
3) The evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost is the physical "speaking in tongues"
4) Worship service is more that empty words sung to pass time and is used to usher the people into the Presence of God. It can also be used to spontaneously minister as God leads.
5) The message is dynamic and powerful with life-changing results
6) Speaking in tongues in a corporate setting is not considered "taboo" but is encouraged.
I am searching for a church that when its members come together, their hunger for God is tangible and all that matters is getting ahold of God. I have been to a few places around here and have yet to find one. Its been 4 months and I am getting desperate!
By the way, distance isn't too big of a deal. I live in north west Houston, near 249/8 but am willing to travel up to around 20 miles for a solid church....
Please help a brotha out!
Thanks :D

Hmm, not too familiar with the Houston area in terms of churches. However, for the few I do know of, from one end of the spectrum to the other, though, I know there's Grace Church in Humble (which is more liberal than many) and The Pentecostals of Katy (more conservative).
Others from that area might be able to chime in and help you...

Hi Dagwood,
Thanks for the reply. I have visited Grace Church of Humble...It was ok. I don't mind the liberal but am trying to steer clear of the "super conservative". Hopefully I can find a "middle of the road" church. I've visited these churches so far:
Grace Church of Humble,
Champions Community Church,
Church of Champions,
Kingdom Worship Center,
Glorious Way.
Bethel Tabernacle.
Life UPC
I have requested info from:
Spirit-Filled Celebration Church
Rhema Word Church
As you can see, I am on the HUNT!! So far the top two contenders are Champions Community and Church of Champions (the ones that I liked). So far though, God hasn't lead me back to them yet. I am wondering if there are others out there.
Thanks again for your help! Hopefully some local Houstonians will chime in.

Life Church (UPC) is Rev Kilgore's church. I have relatives that attend there. They seem to enjoy the fellowship there.

There is a church with a wonderful pastor who is a member of this forum. I can't remember the name of the church but I can find out for you.

Come visit The Pentecostals of Katy.
My personal invitation...you will enjoy it...I promise.
It's funny that someone listed me as extreme conservative...I've heard we were at the other end of the scale on this same forum. Guess that means we are in the middle.
We do preach Baptism in Jesus name and the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
You can check us out online www.thepok.com or download our latest live recording on Itunes. ("Unrestrained - POK Live")
We also have several videos on youtube.com (www.youtube.com)
Search for Shara McKee or Rob McKee.

If you're referring to my post, I mentioned that you are more conservative in the context of comparing to Grace Church Humble. Just wanted to clear the air. I've heard nothing but good about POK and would love to stop by and visit if I'm in that area...

Not exactly "active"...just drop in from time to time to say "hello". "Hello"

Hey NTH, a friend told me about this post.
I pastor Northwest OF Houston, probably farther than you would want to drive.
In the general NW Houston area, you have already visited two of the best for your critera. Wendall and the Jones brothers both have great churches.
There are a few others though. PM me if you would like. Type of worship. Goals -like sitting there, lot of programs, or want to help in a smaller church.
One thing about metro Houston, thousands of churches.
