A lady at work asked me yesterday if i was Mormon. I was taken aback by it to say the least but told her no that im apostolic pentecostal and she said "oh" and went back to her work. Are we anywhere near similar to mormons?

Not in doctrine. But when they broadcast those pictures of the mormons in Utah with the long dresses and uncut hair,.........yes, there were a lot of similarities. They looked like strict Apostolics.

Respectfully Sis. I will have to disagree. The "look" that those mormon women had was not anything close to what I have seen in modern day Pentecostalism......now if you're talking 60's, 70's, and early 80's absolutely. Those morman women looked like they had stepped out of a time machine from little house on the prarie...lol

Quite honestly even most "conservative" Pentecostals would be considered liberal to that mormon sect. Have you been to any recent functions......our women dress in the latest fashions. Just because most still teach against women wearing pants does not make them mormon extremists look alikes.......JMO

I think you're correct, Bish. But, the general "outsider" might tend to be rather sloppy when trying to lump different groups together. It's an attempt to organize one's perceptions about those around them. The hair styles of those "fundamentalist" Mormon wives are at least similar to many Apostolic hairstyles.

The dresses, however - Remember the "Gunny Sacks" ("Gunne Sax") craze of the late 70s and early 80s? I actually liked to see some of those outfits around at the time. Of course, as a younger man and single, I did tend to pay more attention to such matters back then as well.

But there are a lot of Independent Pentecostals in our area who look a lot like these women.
UPC women are a BUNCH OF FLAMING LIBERALS! Lol! (Just had to throw that in).:happydance

I watched those Mormon women on Dr Phil the other day. It was interesting because those women looked just like the UPC women used to back when I was in the UPC in the '70's and early '80's. And when I listened to them talk and heard the things they said were told to them when they tried to leave, I have to say it was the same things we were told over and over.

Ya, when we were in the UPC in the 80's the look was slowly evolving from Little House on the Prairie dresses to basically what we have today where many look like the Duggard girls.
