i was once unemployed. i believe all welfare and unemployed should be given government jobs instead of a free check. even if it is picking garbage up along the highways. mowing cemetaries, sweeping city sidewalks, or any other government job.

sounds like a good idea, there may be extenuating circumstances though

I have no problem with that.

I would also support a bill in which anyone receiving government assistance which is valued more than what they would pay in taxes be required to write a generic 'Thank you!" letter which will then be distributed to a random tax payer. Of course people would think this is WAY too demeaning and most on welfare are not thankful anyways since all money is governments anyways (in their eyes) and NOT the people who are paying.

My rant.

Yep... that would work.

And if you don't show up for workfare then you lose your job (and welfare).

If a man doesn't work... he ought not eat.

get the welfare after work is done as well. If I was destitute I would show up to do some work for assistance while looking for regular job. no problem here.

only problem with it is it would no longer buy votes.

Problem?

That's not a problem. :)

Until it comes time to motivate politicians. Yeah... that's a problem. :)

And even have a database that people could peruse for certain skills. Like a day laborer database.

If I'm looking for a carpenter I could peruse the database and find one and give him a few days work.
