New accredited Christian College (UPCI endorsed) to replace Gateway College of Evangelism. I'm pretty sure it will pass.

My former pastor's son posted a video on Facebook of the opening worship song (I believe that's what it was), and I really liked it. Not sure what it was, but it was a guy singing. Beautiful song...

Several years ago how they did it was that audio streaming and very low quality (almost unwatchable) video streaming were free then you paid for the higher bandwidth video streaming. That seemed fair to me. I hate that there is a charge for every quality level. Some rich UPC donor ought to underwrite the streaming so everybody could watch for free. $75 or $150 is a lot of money for some families and for someone like me who is just mildly curious and not UPC it just does not make sense.

$75 IS a bit pricey. It is actually cheaper to watch a single Sundays worth of football on the DirecTV Sunday Ticket.

Assuming you're speaking of the AM I'm familiar with not too far from Texas, from what I remember hearing from him the last time he preached for us, I don't recall very many speaking in tongues.

It's been a little over 2 years since that happened; he preached for us during a move to a larger facility. The atmosphere was thick with God's presence, but I don't think it was because AM was there to deliver the Word. Matter of fact, the annointing and God carrying it over to the new building is what I remember hearing about so much of -- not standards or anything else, let alone tongues...

If I wanted to hear about standards, I'd simply go to a local area church whose emphasis is placed there, or better yet just go to GC. Speaking of GC, I've never been to one, but for all I can remember hearing people who have gone say about it, it sounds to me like they're preaching the same message of standards but in different forms directed at the choir, instead of ways to save those truly lost. But, I don't know for sure since I've never actually been. Perhaps I shall fancy a trip to it to see for myself...

You'd be blessed. He's sincere about what he preaches, regardless of topic. The times I've seen him, both on the platform and in casual settings, he's been the same -- serious when he needs to be, down to earth otherwise. Too, I love to hear Mick (as she's referred to by family and close friends) sing. When one's around, both of them will do their thing for God and many will be dually blessed by it...

I think that's strictly a matter of opinion that God clearly overlooks. There are testimonies sitting under AM that many people here probably have no idea about, and how he's probably lead them along the way to where they are now. That can be said of any of our pastors, really, regardless of what "keeps them in the movement."

Did I read this right? Do you have to pay to get into the General Conference of the UPC to hear people sing and preach? Do you have to pay to watch it on line? Could someone post the price list again? Entrance Fee to a service and fee to watch it. I am SURE it must be for crowd control because so many are trying to get in and there are not enough seats! I wonder how many they are having to turn away because of crowd capacity? Probably thousands. I got a tweet this week that Jack Cunningham said there were more than 40,000 UPC Churches. How about that!

I love to hear AM preach, have always been blessed by his ministry.

I don't know who is scheduled this year as I am not able to attend nor do I have the time to sit and watch, plus I think this charging for hearing the Word of God is not pleasing to God. He is not a begger and will meet the needs of His people.

Perhaps He is trying to tell them to evauate their purposes for GC, perhaps it is not longer in sinc with Him.

????

P.S. When I am charge to get in, I do NOT give an offering on top of that. They chose how much they wanted me to give us front. Their choice. IMO

Just got some sermon quotes from Anthony Mangun:

-Knowledge without an alter = nothing.

-Revival begins at the alter. We need bigger alters to change our world.

-When the rapture takes place, prayer and fasting will stop , but worship will never stop.

-If we ever become a church of technology we are in trouble, Gods house is a house of prayer.

I went to the conference in St. Louis when Bro. Haney preached and they charged admission. I am no longer UPC and I had my son with me and I couldn't resist. I said, "My son needs the Holy Ghost and you are telling me you are going to charge me to get in?" I immediately told her I was pulling her leg and paid the price of admission.

My feelings as an outsider is that it is no big deal. Every meeting I attend has a fee for admission. The convention center is not cheap to rent and these are economincally difficult times for the UPC as well as almost every other group. The admission is relatively inexpensive so my advice is to suck it up and show up if you believe in your cause. I won't be there, but I hope it is a great event for all who attend. God bless.

If they were to charge a small fee like $25 as a blanket fee that would be fine, but to charge over $100 just to watch over the net...that's not worth it...IMO

And most of you have no clue how much real internet bandwidth actually costs. And to have that much available for only a weeks time.

This is not your average Comcast/Time Warner/Cox cable connection you know.

If you had 10k people streaming at 100 kbps, that is
10,000 * 100,000 = 1,000,000,000 minimum throughput. Or rather in readable terms 1Gbps. So they have to pull a fiber connection somewhere. Either at the UPCI headquarters, or hosted by a company to provide that bandwidth. Not cheap at all.

I can see why the cost needed to be offset by pre-registration and a slight fee.

I am actually aware of what it takes, but my point is that it would be nice for the price to have been more affordable so people can view it if they want. I think the prices were made based on the idea that churches might be willing to pay that for the whole church to watch. Those prices are not justifiable for individuals.

That I do agree on. But I think something more then 1mbps would be offered to a Church, as 1mbps can still be fairly choppy and pixel-ish.

Conference expenses have gone up radically the last decade or so. It costs a lot of money to put on a big conference of any type. This is at the same time the UPCI has had money problems resulting in various departments being eliminated or cut back.

I noticed on the UPCI website that for sessions that had notes you had to print them from the online site as it stated none would be handed out at the sessions. Another cost cutting measure I am sure along with starting next year hosting the conference every year in St. Louis so the HQ staff does not add to the financial burden with the expense of out of state travel, hotel rooms ,etc during the planning and execution of each GC.

I understand the financial reality of putting on GC I just think in the case of actual attendance they need to either have an admission fee or an offering but not both and in the case of online streaming at least offer an audio stream of the night services free then charge for video streams but not the outrageous $75 & $150 bucks. I could see $5 per night at most. Some wealthy UPCer ought to just pony up fifty or one hundred grand and sponser free high quality streaming.

The $25 stream is not a bad quality. The free one years past was a little hard to watch, but this 'low' quality looks pretty good to me. I will gladly pay it to be able to watch the services. Look: nothing is cheap anymore. Someone has to pay for the cost of the live streaming of the services. How many of you pay a whole lot more to go to concerts, Disneyland or sports events and think nothing of it - and it does nothing for you!

They are missing the opportunity to sell concessions, popcorn, hotdogs, nachos, they should sell those big foam fingers, those light spinney things like they have at the circus in the form of the Word Aflame logo, can you imagine 1000 of those things spinning in the crowd? People would definitely get in the spirit.

You could even have those guys selling peanuts in the isle just holding a sign instead of calling out! Peanuts, Lemonade, Beer here!!!!! OOooops, maybe thats not a good idea. :happydance

Churches could run the stands as a fund raiser! Cmon UPCI, think outside the Box!!!!

If they continue GC I think I should partner with Sister Ruth formerly Reider now Harvey and sell some "Holy Hair Dolls" for little UPC girls. A Barbie knockoff with hair to their feet and a dress covering them from the top of the neck to the bottom of their ankles. Deluxe editions could come bundled with her children's books on dressing holy.

Couldn't they be prosecuted for that? Think child porn equivalent.

Or, the hair worn up, Bride of Frankenstein style with all the ribbons, rings, and misc adornments so often seen and complete with real hair spray smell!

Oh yes, the other things they could sell: Photographs!

Think of the typical theme park where some employee will stop and snap your picture and then offer to sell it to you when your leaving. Or the classic Roller Coaster pic which snaps one just as as your going down the first big dip for the purpose of getting that look of horror/delight typically seen on a persons face. They could take "Worship Pictures" where photographers would be trolling the alter snapping pictures of folks in intense worship then selling it to them for 25-50 bucks a pop in back, or, if it is a really bad pic charging 50-100 to NOT show it.

I don't see any difference between this and "the man" holding the mike in the face of someone who has their eyes closed, almost unconscious, speaking in tongues over the PA system...

How many of you pay a whole lot more to go to concerts, Disneyland or sports events and think nothing of it - and it does nothing for you!

Disneyland does nothing for me? Then why have I been going for all these years? :heeheehee

I’m sorry, I expect to pay for entertainment but I also expect the gospel to remain free and for whosever will come. Rev 22:17 says, "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."

When the Spirit says "Come" but the bride says "stop and pay at the door," IMHO, we've denigrated the gospel, our worship and preaching to the level of entertainment.

Why don't we all just start calling her "The woman formerly known as Reider". Everyone will know who we're talking about.

Live streaming is dirt cheap to do these days. Trust me, this is not about covering the cost of the technology.

Funny! Of course my understanding is that "visitors" can come in to the PM service free - with a special push on Fri night to do just that.

You still have enough HG left (even if barely) to be called a brother - so you pay! :highfive

Dude! I only came for the evening service and YES, I had to pay. Grace may be free, but GC is not.

Did I read this right? Do you have to pay to get into the General Conference of the UPC to hear people sing and preach? Do you have to pay to watch it on line? Could someone post the price list again? Entrance Fee to a service and fee to watch it.

I attended Friday afternoon and evening. Entrance to the exhibit halls was free to the general public. Admission was charged for the evening services only. Tickets were $20 per adult; children under 18 were admitted at no charge. I presumed this was to help defray the expense of renting Freedom Hall.

I am SURE it must be for crowd control because so many are trying to get in and there are not enough seats! I wonder how many they are having to turn away because of crowd capacity? Probably thousands. Seating capacity for Friday night's setup is ~17,400. The floor was full. The first tier of stadium seating was just about full. The balcony perhaps 1/3 to 1/4 full. My guess: probably 11,000 to 13,000 in attendance.

I got a tweet this week that Jack Cunningham said there were more than 40,000 UPC Churches. How about that! That is great! God is moving!

And you KNOW they are still going to take 30-45 minutes to receive offerings.
Friday night anyhow they cut it short. It wasn't excessive. The focus was on honoring missionaries. I found it tasteful, touching, and moving.

$25 for a terrible low-quality stream? That's ridiculous. The UPCI continues to cement themselves as the modern day Pharisees.

I disagree with this. Certainly there are some everywhere with erroneous understanding but the broad brush is misapplied here.

I find that those who are prone to make the accusation of Pharisee lack depth of understanding of the doctrines of the accused.

I wonder if "n david" has a problem with tax collectors?

My feelings as an outsider is that it is no big deal. Every meeting I attend has a fee for admission. The convention center is not cheap to rent and these are economincally difficult times for the UPC as well as almost every other group. The admission is relatively inexpensive so my advice is to suck it up and show up if you believe in your cause. I won't be there, but I hope it is a great event for all who attend. God bless.

Amen.

I understand they are going to start charging us to talk about them on AFF. They just haven't figured out a collection system yet! :heeheehee just kidding :spit
You'll pay, eventually! :laffatu

The venue won't undercut their current vendors.

This didn't and doesn't happen.

You are confusing an annual conference of an organization's preachers for the regular evangelical outreach services of their local churches.

Admission is charged for the conference.

Admission is NOT charged to attend your local UPC church to hear the gospel, worship, and join the bride.

The $25 streaming was not bad quality until Saturday afternoon. It wasn't quite as good as the days before - but it was still better than the freebie last year. Somebody has to pay for the streaming.
