We just got our new 59 inch Samsung plasma set with WiFi and 3D capability early this morning.
The picture is incredible and the set is huge in our living room. Much bigger than it looked in the store (Best Buy).
It came with two pairs of 3D glasses and since we subscribe to DirecTV we have a half a dozen dedicated 3D stations to watch. When we tested it out their was a distinct "wow!" factor that lasted about two minutes, but both me and my wife found we cannot watch for more then 20 minutes without incredable eye strain -we tried watching tonight's Arizona State football game which is broadcast on ESPN 3D but couldn't last past 5 minutes before switching to the normal version.
Anyone else here actually LIKE 3D tv?

I've felt the same way after watching IMAX 3D. I love it, but after awhile it REALLY hurts my eyes. I don't think I could handle watching it all the time, and I wonder what kinds of lasting physical effects it could have on viewers.
I believe the Nintendo DS that has 3D capability comes with some warnings about extended use, headaches and seizures. Actually, that might have been with the regular Nintendo. I can't remember. Maybe because the screen is held so close?

I think the Nintendo 3DS is probably much SAFER to use for extended viewing because the screen is so small but this huge set really does a number on the muscles behind your eyeballs. LOL One of the big issues is that the people filming really enhance the 3D to make it pop -much more than if you were there in person. This is probably what causes the huge eye strain. I know the Nintendo 3DS allows you to adjust the depth perception to tone it down a bit.
Avatar was the only 3D movie that I have ever been able to watch without getting a headache after about 15 or 20 minutes. That was in a theater.
I believe your Samsung 3D plasma is active vs passive 3D? If so that is supposed to be the better of the two methods.

It is active. Active generally provides for a much more accurate picture but passive is also much cheaper since it only uses polarizing glasses versus battery powered LCD shutter ones.

I don't like TV at all since I plan on making it to heaven. Enjoy it while you can.

Ya know, it just isn't funny when you make fun of people riding the short bus. So there isn't any reply here that I make that is worth the effort.

Did that movie get you closer to God? How did you like the foul language?

You won't have the time to respond since you will be busy staring at your idol.

We have a PS3 which is capable of playing 3D blurays. I plan on getting the Green Lantern to test it out as well as Avatar.

Narrow, you have a valid PoV in that Television is a sewer.
But it can be monitored so that you control what you see.
Just like the Internet.
Ours has Fox New running mostly,
and then movies we pick out to watch.

My kids flat refuse to watch 3D movies. The last one we saw was a complete waste of money as most of us had to take our glasses off due to eye strain, and then couldn't see the movie without them.

I guess that's what happens when you go for that worldly entertainment. Should have gone to a ball game.:happydance

No I disagree. The only thing that validates an internet experience is a filter, otherwise it is no better than a television. An internet filter knows the page before it loads and it will protect you. A television filter or monitor cannot predict what can and will happen live. Sorry, not the same.

I don't have a problem with 3D movies because the technology is different. The theater uses polarizing glasses which are entirely passive. The glasses for our Samsung are active shutter LCD which means each lens flickers on and off 30 times a second so each eye is only seeing the correct view. While it is fast your eyes still notice the flicker.

I don't get the appeal anyway. Regular-dimensional is good enough for me. ;)

I can see a lot of potential in it IF it is done right and not "over baked". When stereo sound first came out most bands using it went to extremes and had different instruments coming out of one speaker and then the other. It was/is called the ping pong effect and it took a while before musicians and producers used the 2 channels to simulate an actual sound stage. We're still in the ping-pong age of 3D. I do plan on buying the Avatar blueray 3D version since most critics consider this the most well done movie to date.
