View Full Version : Spell Checker and made up UPC words - DENOMINAL
ThePastorsCoach

Does anyone else wonder why people on here do not use their SPELL CHECKER? Do they not know how to spell check or just don't care that they look totally ignorant when they post with a lot of mis-spelled words.
And I cannot understand why people like Mike Anderson in his little famous "I hate contemporary music that is not like mine" letter use (and I saw it again this morning in a post) the word........denominal.
PLEASE stop using that word. It is a made up word by someone in the UPC. How many times have we heard it and it sounds so stupid when people say it..."Those denominal churches".
The UPC is as much a denomination as ANY denomination and there is no such WORD in this context as DENOMINAL! I don't know if someone used it as a cross between "nominal" and "denominational" but IT IS NOT A WORD!
Please folks - people think you are totally ignorant to use it and Mike Anderson used it in a letter to the GS!
Lord have mercy!
Well - I got that off my chest today! ROFL!!!!!!!!!! Have a great day and DO NOT GO TO A DENOMINAL CHURCH! ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No offense, AB. But, considering you apologized recently in your own personal thread for sounding offensive to others, even though you didn't mean to, here you are doing the same thing again.
Please understand not everyone knows how to spell. And for you to point-blank call out the UPC, not only in this thread, but in others too, makes you look more ignorant than the petty little things that seem to get on your nerves.
Would you mind doing me a favor and toning down your nonsense? While you're entitled to your opinion, and while I'm not trying to silence what you feel is worthy of discussing, there are some things that just don't need to be stated. Much of what comes from you falls into that category, IMO...

I have learned the hard way. Some may not spell as well as others, some may not know what a spell checker is, some may be dislexic (sp) or have some other condition.
Honestly I think your thread is just as bad as UC's who look down on those who don't dress like them.
Maybe some here aren't intellectual enough to post on the same board as you.
You could always go find a more intellectual board to post on if we don't meet your "standards" .

And... denominal is a word. Ie... a denominal verb etc.
Context... another issue. But it is a word.

Seriously. If one disagrees with, despises, or hates something so much, yet continuously harps and hounds on that very thing, apparently they don't disagree with, despise, or hate it as much as they make themselves out as such.
There's absolutely no point in spewing nonsense against something one literally doesn't like. While I don't adhere to or agree with some of what the UPC states or believes in, there are other areas I do agree with them on and believe in.
Get off this Forum. Start your own TV program. Minister to people in different ways. But, don't knock a group of people or an organization if they don't have or aren't doing EVERYTHING right in your own eyes.

I wonder when they got rid of it. It used to be a part of the forum. I used to have a tendency to correct the spelling in the post I was quoting because those red squiggly lines drove me crazy.

Bingo. I make very frequent use of my spell checker but my grammar on the other hand leaves something to be desired -my dyslexia being the number one reason. (This is the reason my posts tend to be rather short, and some would say, shallow.)

I can see the point of AB's rant, and I think it was all in fun (I hope). The way preachers use that "denominal" word DOES drive me crazy. It just oozes spiritual elitism and sectarianism.
But if this thread was meant to be an invitation to freely rant, well I have a few of my own:
people that dont capitalize or use any punctuation at all and end up with one giant stream of thought in a run on sentence that goes on for ten or fifteen lines and its nearly impossible to make out what they are trying to say because the words all run together and give me a huge headache and i end up just ignoring it and hoping someone else will quote it and respond to it so i can try to figure out what was being said and then maybe craft a response to it
When people use "Praise the Lord" as a greeting. What ever happened to "hello"?
When guest preachers speak using the "Hebrew intensive plural" - "We're so glad to be here with you today. We'll be taking our text from..." You got a frog in your back pocket there buddy? 'Cause I know you ain't got no wife and you came here alone.
Ahh... AB had the right idea. That DOES feel a little better. :happydance
considering Jesus view of a single door and those who enter by other means are theives and that followed by Pauls comments "if anyone teach you anything other than what I have already taught you..."
I tend to believe in, accept, even count on a certain "Spiritual Elitism".
I will say again, I like the word denominal. we know what it means. it is a good word. It would not be the first word to enter the lexicon.
let us return to normalcy...

And the word - Oneness - God is Oneness! ROFL!!!!!!!!! I think that is so funny!
A little Church of God lady used to come to a church I pastored and she would say, "Now if I ever find out that yer one of them ONELESS preachers...I'm going back to the Church of God!"
One day - for old times sake or maybe insanity, who knows, the music director chose to lead the congregation in "Farther Along, We'll know all about it, Farther Along, We'll understand why. Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine, We'll understand it, all by and by." This little lady came to me at the end of the service with such a look of confusion on her face and showed me the song in the song book (this was QUITE a while ago) and said - If the Father is alone - WHERE'S JESUS??? ROFL!!!!! She thought we were singing - FATHER ALONE!

I didn't like the spell check feature on AFF, so I just type my comment into a Word Document, then copy and paste.
Another benefit of doing my post like that is I save it in the event my Internet Connection goes down.
As far as not spelling words correctly, it does bother me when people do, but I usually don't point out the problem unless I need ammo during a hot debate..

See, here is your problem AB, you don't just post an opinion, you make it a point laugh at other people. Your persona here because of it is worse than any UC. Your attitude is that your poo dont stink and anyone who doesnt agree with you does. You make fun of people who may have a serious problem they have to deal with everyday.
If only we could be as perfect as you, I guess then we wouldn't have to worry about meeting your "standards".
In my opinion, if you were just half of what you apparently think you are, then you might meet my standards.

What they claim is sort of irrelevant.

Denomination:
a religious group, usually including many local churches, often larger than a sect:
a class or kind of persons or things distinguished by a specific name.
5. the act of naming or designating a person or thing.
according to the definition, every one is denominal. No matter what you believe, attend, or call yourself.

OK guys - Y'all have a good time for a while. I have a denominal meeting to go to in the morning. It's a bunch of denominal preachers - but God know I AM NOT one of them denominal people! We are hearing Dr. Henry Blackaby speak and the Echoing Angels sing. My pastor friend that I am going with is not a denominal either so I hope we are safe.
We will try to think of what to say if they ask us if we are denominal!
God help us all. Maybe we can be a light to all the denominal preachers tomorrow!
Pray for us Saints that we can hold on to the TRUTH until the Lord comes cause it is so hard to live right in this old sin cursed world. I wish the Lord would just come and snatch us all up by the hair of our head - or whats left of it and git us all outta here and let all the denominal people have their just reward!
Have a good night and don't give in and compromise with the denominals!
I have a country preacher friend who is good as gold but his grammar is lacking. Several years ago after a lot of conversations with him I realized that he thought the words "occult" and "cult" were the same. LOL!!! He would use the word "occult" in the context of talking about "cults". I imagine it had to be confusing at times for his congregation.

Not exactly the same but another funny anecdote nonetheless:
My Pastor, who I've never heard preach "standards", told me that when he was a young evangelist, he was a hardcore UC "standards" preacher. One night while harping on the subject, he said this: "These women who wear dresses to church and secretly wear pants outside of church, they try to tell people they don't wear pants, WELL I'D LIKE TO GET IN THEIR DRAWERS!!!!"
Needless to say, he backed waaaaay off on the standards issue!

Following the links at m-w.com, I suppose we could discover that "the noun" your adjective is derived from would be "denomination."
What stood out to me was the fact that "denominal" appears to have been coined at about the same time the UPC started trying to get women to stop trimming their hair and to stop wearing slacks. They're all a novelty and don't say anything about the ancient roots of our Christian faith.

Denominal - In grammar, denominal verbs are verbs derived from nouns. Also known as "Denominative Verbs".
Noun: Destruction
Verb: Destruct
So let's break down "Denomination"
Noun: Denomination
Verb: Denominal
So, some edumacation on your part would be great before you run others down.
Are they using it in the correct context? Probably not.
I am Apostolic Pentecostal. How exactly does that make me denominal, hmmm?
