Between our three Sunday services today we baptized 17 people today in the wonderful name of Jesus!

It was only about six months ago that we baptized over 20 so this is a great trend continuing.

Great news, CC1!

We've been baptizing people almost every service for the last two or three months. And I hear reports of so many others doing the same!

Revival is in the air!

CCRider...that is wonderful news!

What church are you attending now? Still at Christ Church or have you moved on?

Barb, because of my wife's second back surgery she could no longer make the 45 minute trip back and forth to CC and then sit for so long in a service. We were attending a wonderful church in our town outside of Nashville then got our pastors blessing to help out a new church plant that my daughter and SIL were attending and my daughter was part of the praise and worship team.

The church is three years old this month and has grown from a handful of people to over 300 between three Sunday services. We had to go to a third service in February due to overcrowding. It is pastored by an exUPC young man who used to be the youth pastor at the local UPC church.

Good to know he hasn't forgotten us. I will always cherish the prayers I know that you and Elder Groce made for my son during his two tours of duty in Iraq. As you probably recall Elder Groce even dedicated a web page for that purpose! Tell him ole CC1 says hello.

Is every baptized person saved?
I have seen some people getting baptized and flipped right back into the old life styles.
Never saw a change. I don't want to be negative.....just asking.

What a weird question. Of course being baptized doesn't guarantee a person will not fall away. Last time I checked there were not too many "once saved always saved" folks around here.

Our baptismal candiadates are three types;

1. Those who have gone through our new members class and have learned our basic doctrines.
2. Those who have been attending church and have experienced a previous baptismal service and the sermon that is about baptism that precedes the actual baptisms.
3. Those who hear the sermon about baptism and on the spot decide to be baptized.

In all of those cases these folks are not just getting baptized on a whim. Each and every one has been taught the doctrinal place of baptism and its significance.

That's not a weird question at all.
I have seen people being baptized and standing behind the church smoking cigarettes 30 minutes later.
Makes you wonder.......I guess they fell away 5 minutes after the ceremony.

And they also went through a "baptism class" for "new" members!

I can just picture you hanging out by the exit when there is a baptismal service so you can check to see if any of them light up a cigarette when they get outside. Good grief.

Yes it is!

First of all, not everyone drops their cigarettes right away, even after Spirit infilling. For some, it is a struggle...does that make their baptism any less valid?

Secondly, I have seen folks who were preaching the Word for years and years fall away. What does the length of time have to do with anything? :foottap It matters not to Christ if they fell away 5 minutes or 50 years...backsliding is backsliding.

Can we ever have read good news without looking for the downside? :foottap

Sorry, I was told by a UPCI pastor, clear and to the point, that all smokers go to hell.
Baptized or not. He kicked smokers out of the church at a regular basis.

Smoking is a sin.

It is also a stronghold from which people need deliverance. Deliverance is a process.

That does not excuse the sin.

However long-suffering is a fruit of the Spirit of God. God is often patient with us as we work out our own salvation.

The object here is the sinner turn from his sins and lay them before God and God will deliver.

The job of the preacher is to tell the sinner about his sin so that Godly sorrow can work repentance. They may not know smoking is a sin but when it is revealed then they must strive for deliverance.

Sin is sin, however he who is in Christ is a NEW creature. Freedom is a choice. The Bible talks about coming up from the water and "walking" in the newness of life. Too be born of the water makes us clean from sin, it is our choice to walk in this new life... or not. That is a daily walk of prayer, fasting, and reading the word of God striving to live a holy life.

I hate smoking probably more than just about anybody but from a rational standpoint a person doing that is sinning the same as a person who is a glutton. I know that intellectually but I hate smoking so much and it was ingrained in me in old time Pentecost that it is somehow more evil than many other sins that I still have a strong reaction and judgement about people doing it.

It always disappoints me to see some person who goes to church smoking but I have to believe that God will deal with them about it over time and if they respond the right way they will quit just like a person with any other bad habit or thing that is not good for them should feel the same way about that thing as a Christian.

I am just not going to be the guy sitting and judging people to hell because they don't immediately stop smoking when the come to the Lord.

Smoking helps manage my hypoglycemia. I don't do it often. Only in those critical IMAYGOINTOACOMA moments.

Btw...don't get mad at me!
I am only saying what the pastor said.
I.o.w. Having a smoke 15 minutes after getting baptized is bad.
It makes a mockery out of the ceremony.
Specially 10 feet from the church front door.
I would not call that great witnessing, specially to young people.

Yeah, sounds like the love of Christ shed abroad in our hearts BY the Holy Ghost...not!
