Especially for Hoovie--
I just finished a book called "Growing Up Amish". Very interesting read, and actually lots of similarities to growing up UPC. I don't mean that in a negative way - it just was interesting and made me think.
I wondered if Hoovie would relate to this book.

I have not read it, though my experience was likely somewhat similar. We were Amish light.
We did not practice "the ban" or "shunning" like the Amish do. Perhaps that is why I would describe my own experience in mostly good terms. I have never felt the need to write any sort of expose' and have a fairly good relationship with my family and Mennonite/Amish friends.

This guy had really good things to say about the Amish, even though he didn't agree with them anymore. He is now Mennonite. You should read it; you would get a kick out of a lot of it!

Ok I'll get it! Thanks!
I should say... My upbringing was not progressive Mennonite, but very much like the Old Order Amish in lifestyle. Speaking German, Horse and Buggy mode of transportation, ultra plain Dress etc.

Yes, the way they would talk about them leaving and becoming Mennonite reminded me so much of Apostolics saying "they went Charismatic". Ha! There were a lot of the same emotions involved.

Ok, I just ordered a book called "Amish to Apostolic", but its by an Audrey Fiegi, not someone named King. May not be the same book - I got it through Amazon.

That's the right book. It's about David and Barbra King.
A number of years back, my mother was able to help a Mennonite lady pray through to the baptism of the Holy Ghost. This lady was apparently one of the older order Mennonite, as she wore the clothing that resembled the Amish, but was not against modern conveniences. Mom told me that it gaver her a thrill.
