View Full Version : What phone do you use?

What current (smart) phone is everyone using here?

If your not happy with your current one, which one would you like to get?

If you had to get rid of your PC or Mac would your phone be a suitable replacement?

I know there are at least some who will say yes to this, which boggles my mind because personally, not only is my phone NOT a replacement for my laptop, my laptop is not even a replacement for my desktop (where you still get by far the best bang for the buck in terms of sheer computing power and screen size).

iphone - nothing compares.

No, does not replace a computer, but certainly allows reasonable access to the web ect.
For me it did replace my laptop primarily due to the potability question.- rarely use a laptop now. Does not begin to replace desktops. Not that great for creating documents.

I actually see the need for all three devices, a smartphone, a laptop, and a desktop. I have an iPad which work gave me, and I NEVER use it. It is too big to fit in my pocket yet to small to replace the laptop.

My own phone is the Droid Razr Maxx. Love it!

used to have a Blackberry Pearl, had the multiple letter to one button keyboard on it that Blakberry no longer makes. Best phone I ever had. When they quick making it, went to the iPhone 4. I do love it.... great phone.

My laptop died, will replace one day, need it for study. Don't need a desktop. My laptop had a docking station, so it served as a desktop when needed.

Right now, not even missing having a computer at all, all the internet needs I have I can get done on my iPhone. I just hand write and type up my teaching notes at work on my lunch break.

iPhone.

Love having access to everything on the run. Doesn't replace laptop or desktop, but very nice to have when you don't have those with you.

Droid 3 with the slide out keyboard. Love it!

Also have a Kindle Fire which has internet access.

But neither of those can replace my desktop. They're convenient for when I am out and about. But for really doing some serious work, I rely on my desktop heavily. And I don't even have any desire for a laptop. My boys both have them. but I don't even want one.

by the way, I have a Blackberry that I used for 10 days exactly before Justin bought me the Droid. I'd have to look up the model #. It's for Verizon. I'd be willing to sell it if anyone is interested. Just speak the word.

Ya, my desktop is my workhorse. It is the machine I use for cataloging my pics and doing heavy Photoshopping.

This was my very first cell phone. An old analog Motorola bag phone which pumped out a full 3 watts and could get reception almost anywhere!

It did not play any games, nor did it have an app store and it was $$$ to use!

Heh heh...I have a phone that dials numbers to call, and I'm somewhat getting used to this newfangled "texting" thing. I don't need an app for that.

For cell phone: iPhone 3GS...

For land line: Uniden (what can I say? You didn't specify land line or cell)...

Have a desk top computer that's about 10 years old, but it's stored away since it takes up too much space. So, we just use a lap top with Wi-Fi...

Whats funny is that we replaced our land line with a MagicJack a couple of years ago and haven't had it plugged in for a few months now. We never used it. The only calls we got on it were telemarketing ones.

I've seen the MagicJack commercials and find myself so skeptical of it. Sure, the price is great. But, what's different about it vs. traditional land line or internet phone service?

As for the telemarketing calls, 99% free from them since my number's on the national no-call registry.

I just haven't brought myself to relying solely on wireless communication because (1) I refuse to be chased down or leashed with a phone on my waistband EVERYWHERE (especially at home) I go, (2) I don't trust wireless reception since it's not always clear and (3) I absolutely despise and get frustrated with the delay in transmission when talking to someone. So many times, conversations overlap one another all because both parties are tying to say something and end up talking over one another. It drives me nuts...

Needless to say, I make AT&T a pretty good profit each month with land line, wireless, internet, and U-verse (cable)...

There is nothing to be skeptical of about it. It works and works well. It is only 40 bucks and either 20 or 30 additional per year (the first year is included in the purchase price). It is by far the cheapest VOIP service you can get which allows computer-to-landline calls or the reverse. Services that allow computer to computer calls are free, such as skype.

Dare I admit, I'm using an LG basic cell phone that is 4 or 5 yrs old. The contract is long ago expired.
I still have original cell service company....other than names changing as they are bought by one another. :heeheehee

My original contract was March 1997; same cell #.......(currently Verizon)

I want to update but hate to spend the money.....my grandfathered in contract is 29.99---350 min, free nights after 9 and free weekends.

My phone can be used to text or limited internet usage but that would raise the monthly fee..........:foottap

For the past week, I have been getting to know my brand new Droid Razr Maxx. This thing is really nice! Large screen. Super responsive. And the best battery of any phone our there period.

I've had my iPhone 3GS since last August and am very highly considering switching back to a BlackBerry (when my contract is us) since my last BB had the option to turn off texting. I wish the iPhone would do that.

Sure, I hear some people say they just don't like talking on the phone. To each their own. Although I haven't ruled it out just yet, I may very well go strictly voice, regardless of the "convenience" of texting. For that matter, you may as well just call me at home, on my land line. After all, cell phones USED to be strictly for emergency purposes only.

Anymore, people chase one another down as if it IS an emergency, only just to carry on a casual conversation...especially while driving.

Ya, our texts are strictly between my wife and I and usually between 100 and 200 total messages a month. Many of them are 1-3 words.

As far as driving, I simply do not answer my phone when I am behind the wheel (or usually even in the passenger seat!).

That's about the same here. I mean, we have the unlimited text package just so we can have the unlimited M2M calling. One one hand, it's nice since it's essentially two decent features for the price of one, yet on the other we don't text or talk that much on our phones. Well, actually Mrs. Dagwood does more than I do. But, that's a typical lady, right? :)

As for the answering while driving, unless it's my wife, I don't either unless I'm expecting a phone call from someone else. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to listen, talk, and drive in Dallas suburb traffic all at the same time...
