View Full Version : How Many Wives does God Have?
How many wives has God had, how many wives does He have now, and how many wives will He have in total when it's all over?
In Jeremiah 3:6-10 it seems God had 2 wives: Israel and Judah. He divorced Israel but not Judah. Reading down through verse 10 of that chapter, He invites Israel to return to Him. Then in verse 14 He says "I am married to you" -not sure who the "you" is here---Israel, Judah, both?
In the New Testament we read about the Church which is the espoused bride of Christ according to 2 Corinthians 11:2 and she will become His wife in the future in Revelation 19:7
Then some seem to preach that the 10 virgins in Matthew 25:1-13 were somehow potential brides but only 5 made it and 5 did not. So, does Jesus have 5 brides?
Also, is Israel married to the Father and the Church married to the Son?
Or since God (in flesh) died, is He now freed from His marriage to Israel and free to marry whomever He choses i.e. the Church?
Or, is Israel the wife dead now so God is free to marry whomever He will?

Well, if the Church is His 'Briide'...we are 'all' His wives, so to speak.

Why does God need a bride when he does not procreate? He just creates.

God is love. He loves His Bride.
If the church is the espoused bride of Christ but the marriage has not taken place yet, and we are children of God by birth, does that mean God and His Bride have brought to birth children without being married to each other?

God was married to Israel, now divorced and married to the church. Israel will join the church and be part of the new bride. so being divorced and remarried he cannot be a upc minister.

I doubt if God would want to be a upc (under privileged children) minister

When analogies fall apart... good observations Sam! Analogies are only tools to help give us inisght into how something unfamiliar works. Analogies are rarely perfect explanations and often fall apart beyond whatever insight the analogy attempts to convey.

Good point. I always heard the "married" ther more like "married to your work," "committed." But have read the "divorce" decree thing. I always assumed that, especially Apo/Pent doctrine attributed those to the Son. Guess not.

Well, if God can have many brides...
Well, if God can have many brides...
Do not even go there.
Actually, we are grafted into an already existent bride (the children of Israel). He chose them, but then allowed the Gentiles to become a part as well. It is understood that all should now become one in the body of Christ as He is that living God who chose the children of Israel.
There has been and will always be one bride. He could claim both Israel and Judah since they had been a single people before. However, after their split the one walked after Him with partial hearts with the other left Him completely. However, there were representatives of the other tribes within the borders of Judah. Further the kingdom of Judah actually contained the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi. Thus God is addressing them as a single entity not their composite parts.
