I find myself up late really struggling with the loss of my mother. I feel partly responsible because I was her caregiver for a few years. Within those years we gave her bible studies and she was then baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Her health grew worse over time so I am worried that she died unsaved since we are not 100% sure that she received the Holy Ghost before she passed. This is really tormenting me right now and I pray for some peace in this storm.

I lost one of my uncles whom I was extremely close to. I do not know if he was saved b4 he died of a massive heart attack, but all I can do is hold on to what I truly believe.....I will see him in Heaven one day. Don't allow Satan to try and torment you friend. That is his way to steal your time from you that you can be rejoicing over seeing your mum one day :) BIG HUGS to you friend~ Praying for your inner peace in the midst of your storm!

God does not want you to be tormented with these thoughts. Your mind keeps playing WHAT IF she is not saved? But WHAT IF she is?

When my Grandpa died, I wondered if he was saved. I felt this scripture when I prayed. To them that hath shall be given more and to those that have not, even that which they had will be taken away. (my paraphrase). This meant to me that, if my grandpa was saved, he would be fine but if he wasn't, even that which I loved and cherished was no longer a part of him. In other words, I could love and cherish every memory of him because if he was not saved, those memories were mine. They did not belong to him. That which he had on this earth.....if he was evil......would be removed and the memories belonged to me alone. God wanted me to cherish and love those memories. This removed the What If and allowed me to love and grieve and put aside and TRUST God to make the right decision regarding his soul.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for your prayers. In the beginning when I first gave my life to Christ my mother was against the truth. But little by little she began to take steps towards Christ on her own. She requested to be baptized in Jesus name a few years ago. Recently when she was hospitalized my sister witnessed her begin to shake and her tongue was moving but she was unable to make a sound because she was extremely sick and frail. I do believe in my heart that she was filled with the Holy Ghost. God is good and I know that if someone takes that first step towards salvation he will complete his work in them.

Hi Yvette

I'm sorry for you loss.

Do you really think the shaking and the tongue-movement is what saved your mom? Frankly i'm not familiar with that gospel. The Lord clearly says in His word that whomsover believeth in Him has eternal life. I'm convinced that believing comes with repentance and we are saved by His grace through faith in Christ. Your mom gained eternal life the moment she believed on Christ. that's my understanding of the Holy Scriptures

Yes I do and that is the true gospel that Jesus taught Nicodemus. I am actually very surprised that you are on an Apostolic forum and do not know the scriptures. Believing itself is the first step towards obedience to Gods word. If you remember Nicodemus was a teacher of the law, a Pharisee. He went to Jesus privately and asked what must I do to be saved:

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

John 3

King James Version (KJV)

3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

Fast forward to Acts 2:38 we then find Peter teaching the exact same gospel,

Acts 2:38-39

New King James Version (NKJV)

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

This is truth and this the only truth. You cannot substitute it for another. Quite frankly I would seriously go and read these scriptures and pray for direction. God will open up your mind and understanding to the scriptures. To me this is very important and if I am not baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues then we are not saved and this is not according to my own thinking but it is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Now we can refuse to obey what we just read, it is our choice. God created us with a free will but I would seriously consider reexamining your doctrine.

God Bless

Well said! Thats how i feel. Though i nver spoken in tongues id like to think im saved...

Thank you for your support. Repentance is the first step towards salvation I do believe that. But we cannot stop there. Obedience to Gods word is the next step. When I read the great commission in Matthew 28:16-20 I understand that God taught his disciples to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations.

Matthew 28:16-20

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Then if you turn to the book of Acts you will find the Apostles carried out his commandment by baptizing people in the NAME of Jesus Christ and then the believers were filled with the Holy Spirit. How do we know they received the Holy Spirit? Because they heard them speaking in tongues. We are born with a dead dormant spirit because sin has separated us from Gods love. When we receive the spirit of God our own spirit awakens with a cry much like a newborn baby. The evidence that someone has received the holy spirit is when hear them speaking in tongues thus their spirit has awakened and they are no longer separated from God. We can now communicate with him in a heavenly language as his spirit continues to lead us into all truth. If we reject this truth then we miss the chance of spending an eternity with a loving God. Baptism cleanses us from our past sins as we begin a new life in Christ. It is absolutely beautiful and I pray that everyone finds and obeys this truth.

God Bless

He said unto them, "Have you reveived the Holy Ghost since ye believed?"

And they said unto him, "We have not so much as heard whether there be
any Holy Ghost."

And he said unto them, "Unto what then were ye baptized?"

And they said, "unto John's baptism."

Then said Paul, "John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance,
saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus."

When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on
them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

ACTS 19: 1-6 KJV

Yes, believe........but also be baptized in Jesus name and receive the
Holy Ghost (evidenced by speaking in tongues)! It's a must! :nod

My friend you keep seeking the Giver of all good gifts. Don't doubt your Salvation for one minute because you have not "shallammattaa", the blood of Christ is what cleanness us from all unrighteousness not the water of the Baptismal tank.

Many out there speak in tongues and have been Baptized in Jesus Name but would not know the love of Christ if it bit them on the behind.

This show is not the only Pentecost in town. We had a move of the Holy Ghost last Sunday that was so sweet and we are not Oneness and we don't believe in the Acts 2:38 plan of Salvation but yet God filled His house of worship with His presence. I guess nobody told God that we are in error. :happydance

I will pray that God will stir up the indwelling Spirit that resides in you and that He will Baptize you with His Spirit and that you will speak in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance not for them but for you and His Kingdom. :icecream

Oh, goodness! While it has become popular in churches to say we KNOW who is saved and who is not, that is a lie. We do not know. Only God knows. And the bible is clear that there will be people who think they are saved, who did great works in His name, who will be turned away.

Rest assured that in giving your mother the opportunity to know Christ, you have her the best humanly gift you could have offered. He will judge her justly; He is a just God.

I am not going to debate theology on this thread. I just want you to know that I am praying that God gives you peace in this matter. I know it is very hard thing because of the bond between us children and our mother. No matter how old we are or they are.

Amen!!! We must not be led astray by this world. I believe the word of God exactly as it is written and I will not substitute it or sugar coat it. I was taught by an Apostolic pastor many years ago when I first came to Christ and he always had me read the scripture on my own so that I could see that it was not anything he made up but the actual word of God. When I read that I had to be baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Spirit I knew immediately that I had to obey. If we do not read it for ourselves and apply what we read then we are losing out.
