View Full Version : Life is Strange

I was watching this video on the internet the other day and it was this retired teacher who went around and got food from various stores that they were going to throw away and took it to food pantries. This man was lauded as such a wonderful and giving man that he would spend his time doing this.

So, then, obviously, the people who need the food would go to the food pantry and get it and that is okay and the man is wonderful.

However, the thought occurred to me that it was fine and dandy for these people to go to the pantry and get free food for nothing and no initiative as long as it was collected by a retired teacher who was lauded for being a wonderful person, but if these same people took the initiative themselves and went to the stores and asked for the food or dug in their dumpsters for it, they would be castigated and possibility criminalized. So the people who are hungry are not encouraged to make their own way, at least, certainly not in this way, which I find strange and backwards.

Thoughts?

Societal controllers want people weak and dependant upon them for survival. It guarantees continued power. If you make it too easy for the poor and such to take care of themselves, they won't need the Government hand to hold them up (and then the left/Democrats will lose votes in droves).

Bingo. That is exactly what I was thinking. And I think this thinking pervades the culture. Actually, I find it a constant irritant as I talk to people. Explaining my views to them seems too exhausting, so I usually don't bother to try to hard, but when you look at the US culture, it is a dependency culture and self-sufficiency in any way is discouraged. Our farmers are so government subsidized, it isn't even funny.
