War Vet Beaten to Death by Teens

An 88-year-old World War II veteran is dead after two teens beat him in a parking lot, police say. It's unclear why the teens attacked Delbert "Shorty" Belton in Spokane, Washington: "It does appear random ... there was no indication that he would have known these people prior to the assault," says a police rep. The suspects are reportedly black males between ages 16 and 19, one six feet tall and about 150 pounds, while the other, dressed all in black, is heavyset.

One of the thugs was arrested. Too bad he didn't resist arrest. This would've been one time I wouldn't mind the police using excessive force to take down a perp.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office on Friday said the cause of the death was blunt facial and head injuries. It also said in a news release that the manner of Belton's Thursday death was homicide.

IMO this act of violence just didn't pop-up in their minds to do this. Hard telling what they have done to spawn such an act.

The other thug has been arrested this morning, along with several others who were arrested "for rendering criminal assistance."

Whomever gave this thug any kind of aid should be arrested as an accomplice to murder.

I'm still disappointed these two were taken alive, although fortunately WA state has the death penalty option. It's one of the only states which gives the option to the condemned -- either lethal injection or hanging.
