MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Moscow could take “retaliatory steps” if Washington proceeds with plans to build a missile defense system for Europe, including possibly aiming nuclear weapons at targets on the continent.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19013495/ He's been taking Russia to a more socialist society, dismantling some of the democratic reforms of Boris Yeltsin (I said democratic, not Democratic - the Democrat Party has nothing to do with it). He's also been trying to bring Russia back up to superpower status.
