Alright, this thing is pretty slick. Lots of banter about the finger print security feature. I say its icing on the cake. I like the new camera features and faster processor and longer battery life. the new gold case is cool too. Ive got a iphone 4, waited through the 4s and 5. Im gonna upgrade, anybody else?

The one "killer feature" that any of the Apple portable products DON'T have and is a must have for me, is an open file system. Until I can plug an ipad or iphone into a computer and drag and drop files back and forth like I can with my Droid Razr Maxx, it is a no go for me.

Forgive my ignorance, but you can't do this with an iPhone?? Of course, it doesn't surprise me. Apple products are known for being closed and proprietary.

No. You have to use iTunes or a work around provided by other apps like Dropbox. But even if you use Dropbox the app itself has to support using it. It is VERY closed.

I administered over 200 iPads at our school so I am extremely familiar with them.

I'm one of the few who don't have a tablet. I heard the Surface is not that good...funny they're running an ad against an iPad though. I was thinking about getting a Galaxy Note or something similar. May just wait for the Note III phablet to come out.

I understand. But wait! it comes in some really cool colors! In all seriousness Apple can be a real pain when it comes to sharing info outside its clique. I guess thats how they "roped" or suckered us into buying Apple everything.

I'm not really a fan of the whole tablet concept. If I want portability, I use my phone. If I need something with enough screen size to be useful, I use a laptop since the tablets are already too big to put in a pocket anyways.

Having said all that. . . . We got an iPad 2 a few weeks ago. We got it free for signing up with Dish Network and we use it as a third TV. Oh, and my wife loves playing Candy Crush and Plants vs Zombies 2 on it.

The Dish Hopper also allows us to transfer recorded content from the DVR to the iPad for later viewing which is really cool, except. . . . the iPad has no expandable storage and 16 gigs fills up really really fast.

:toofunny I cannot believe they didn't include some kind of expandable storage for the iPad! Of course, they claim that no one really needs 16GBs, but, as you said, it fills up really quick if you put movies on it. I'd be surprised if the next iPad doesn't correct that problem. Recording in HD and downloading movies requires much more than 16GBs.

I use my phone for everything. I have Officesuite on it, which lets me make docs; an app which lets me take a photo of a document and make it into a .pdf file; and an app which allows me to take the .pdfs and attach a signature and date. The last time I renewed my auto insurance, I did it all on my phone. Got the papers via email, used the app to sign them and then sent it back.

I just downloaded "Robin" the new smart assistant for android. It's surprisingly accurate, and works very well. The only weird thing was one time I opened facebook and noticed a red light on where the front-facing camera was. Seconds later, Robin posted a query on my timeline from earlier in the evening. I think I may have shared it by mistake and it just didn't send it until I opened FB. I've watched, but nothing else has been posted and I haven't seen the red light again.

Me: Tell me a joke
Robin: "The new iPhone is coming soon. It's going to have a new feature that actually keeps track of your every movement. President Obama was like, 'Right. New feature.' Hahaha"

:lol

Now, if the voice was less robotic and sounded more like Megan Fox...I'd be really happy.

I was thinking about going to Samsung Galaxy (it has a nice screen and camera) if the new iphone was gimmicky like the 4s was with surry or what ever. I mainly use my iphone for texting, music and forum browsing. I really cant see my self switching to Galaxy now for a cool screen and camera when the new Iphone has that or close to it anyway. Isnt worth migrating all my Itunes to the Samsung. Im in too deep now!

The ipad 4 and the miniipad has as much as 64 gigs. I just got the new mini. RandyWayne, what is the Dish Hopper? Is that an app? And what does it do? I have close to 5,000 songs on my ipad and still have close to 14 gig available.

The Dish Hopper is the DVR used by Dish Network. It can record up to three things at once -I know the commercial and other advertising says "up to 6 shows at once!!" but that is under very limited circumstances.

Well...I'm a diehard Apple fan. :) I'm excited about the new 5S, and I've called our next family upgrade (due in November) for my own phone. We used the last 2 to get the girls iPhones and it's MY turn. ;)

I've yet to meet any project that Apple can't do better, slicker and shinier than Windows. The Apple *versions* of Windows programs like Word, Powerpoint, Excel aren't just replacement copycats--they're actually truly better programs. I would never want to go back to Powerpoint after using the oh-so-snazzy Keynote. I hate when I have to use Powerpoint to make slideshows at the church. Whenever possible, I make them at home and then tweak them later, because the end product is so much better out of Keynote. Another lovely tool is being able to turn them into movies that will play from a DVD with imbedded music. Much easier to throw into EasyWorship on Sundays than a Powerpoint. Ppt is supposed to have those capabilities, but I've rarely been able to get it to work without bugs. Pages is way better than Word ever thought about being, and my husband loves Numbers--he switched from Excel and wouldn't go back unless it was completely necessary. I also don't miss dealing with all the viruses, bugs and glitches that I dealt with on ALL of my Windows products - laptop, desktop, Android phone.

I can see where Windows products work better for anyone who is deeper than software level into computers, and that is their only real edge, IMO.

iPad: I agree, it's redundant for some things, but I love it for two reasons -

--Music. All of my sheet music is loaded onto my iPad. I used to lug around heavy binders of sheet music to practices and church. Now it's all on my iPad, and obviously I couldn't simply prop my laptop up on the music stand. The iPad is perfect for that purpose. Additionally, I have mp3 clips and/or copies of most of the songs that are in my sheet music library, and using ForScore, I can link to those songs from each piece of music. That makes it really easy in ensemble practice, because I can pull up my sheet music and then play the music for the ensemble right from that screen.

--3G when traveling. It's smaller and lighter than my laptop, but big enough that I don't have to squint at it like my phone. Music, movies, games, browsing, Facebook, etc., fits right in my purse--unlike my laptop, although the macbook air is so light and slim, it nearly fits into my purse, too.

Sorry, boys. You can pat yourselves on the back for your Windows loyalty, but I think it's because you haven't truly delved deep enough into Apple to catch the fever. :heeheehee

Lets just say, your wrong and leave it at that.

Although having said that, the Air has the TRUE functionality that I wish the iPads had. I carried one around with me (along with my Toshiba laptop) my last year at the school.

You don't have to be polite. We can agree to disagree. :D

I do get that Apple products are limited because of their tight-fisted approach--however, those limits really only affect a small number of people, IMO. And those people have to deal with the cumbersome disadvantages that accompany Windows freedom.

Agreed. I love it. Mine has a big fat cracked screen right now. I dropped my iPad yesterday--and it sort of bounced onto my laptop screen, which I had left sitting open on the floor. (Stupid, I know!) I thought the nasty quiet cracking noise was the iPad screen, but then I realized the corner of it had caught my mac screen. :( The $300ish it will take to repair it is well worth it. It is a lovely little machine...and so LIGHT! FTR, I loved my Toshiba that preceded it, too. I passed it on to my sister for college, and it's still running, as far as I know.

Yes, yes, I know that, I just call anything that isn't Apple "Windows." Wrong terminology, but still Apple vs. Them. :heeheehee

I had an Android HTC Desire before my iPhone, and I liked it--but like everything else that isn't Apple, it was buggy and glitchy. I didn't really care while I had it, because I liked my phone. Then I got my iPhone and realized it was practically hassle free and realized what I'd been putting up with.

I don't have a super grudge against all non-Apple products; I simply like Apple better. :happydance:happydance:happydance
