Well technically, I am against most STATE and Fed mandated stuff, but I do believe the flu shot is a good idea. . . .

Although personally I don't think I have ever noticed a difference between a "shot" and an "unshot" year as far as being sick more or less. I am really the perfect person for medical studies since I seem to experience zero placebo effect from meds.

I have. I used to never take it. Then I ended up in the Hospital with a 103 fever. Ever since I got the shot and ever since not had the flu

If people CHOOSE to take it that is fine with me, but this "take it or else!!" has got to go.

When I wrote to my representative I told him I was forced to leave nursing school over the issue, even though they changed the rule to mandate it in mid-semester. I told him this should not have happened to me. I also think people should not be forced out of their jobs over it. Fortunately, the medical center where my husband works put the mandate off for a year. I am going to guess that they are waiting to see what happens as far as this bill. If the bill is shot down, you can guess that employers are going to go hog wild and there will be no recourse. If you believe in health freedom, you better pay attention to this issue!

I was reading some comments, can't remember where, but a lot of people in the nursing profession were scolding those that didn't want to take the flu vaccine. They were accusing them of bringing in sickness to the patients.

I've also notice that many people in this country are in LOVE with their doctors, vaccines and medication. You can't talk to them about choices. They don't want to hear it at all.

We used to have churches on every corner, now it appears we are competing, as to new construction, with hospitals and clinics. Something is wrong with that scenario.

Health officials here are pushing the Pertussis Vaccine (Whooping Cough) bc of another outbreak this year ~ We are giving it at the ER where I work. It is 60.00 but we offer it to non-insured patients for 21.00 bc it is being federally funded. It is now called the T-dap (Tetanus , Diphtheria , Pertussis). I had to have mine since I am an RN but they have NOT as of yet said a person HAS to get it! However if you are a care-giver for an infant/small children you do need it and most places where there are the elderly or infants involved, they will not allow you to work with them unless you are vaccinated against Pertussis. I do agree with PO about Doctors "You can't talk to them about choices. They don't want to hear it at all." This is true and I see it all the time with working side by side with them in the ER and p/t in their own private practices. Btw.....I loath my doctor....:heeheehee...seriously!

I've read that Vitamins A and C go a long way in healing Whooping cough. I've experimented with Vitamin C and it is a really awesome Vitamin.

This is a great article on the subject:

I've heard that the weaker Pertussis Vaccine they are giving may have something to do with the outbreak....I don't know, really.

AllNurses.com has a whole section on the flu vaccine. Many nurses are upset about the mandate.

I was just told this week and our office isn't going to make us have the vaccine. There was dancing and I think I heard a couple speaking in tongues!

We got our flu shots yesterday. We had to stop in at my wifes work for her to finish up something and the other pharmacist on duty said "Do you want one?" and I hesitated a few seconds and said "Ya sure, why not. . . " so we both got poked.
