There's video of Phil Robertson speaking to a group of men, and stating "You got to marry these girls when they are 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks. Look, if you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket
Of course, the Phil haters are out in force again. They're calling him a pedophile and claiming Phil's against women's rights and for making wives a slave.
I turned on my tv to get online, and TMZ was on, with the main guy and his sidekick talking about it. It's hilarious to watch these hollywood types try to understand Phil or the rest of the Robertsons.
Do you agree with Phil, or is he a dirty old man who should be on the registered sex offender list?
I want to see him saying it. Do you have a link? Back in the olden days, they did marry that young. He is from a different time. But I don't think anybody should listen to him in that regard. He is sexist, I think. But, hey, he has the right to say whatever he wants. ;)

I've heard him say it. However, I took it as a "tongue in cheek" comment. Miss Kay says she wanted a "Mountain Man" and she got one! LOL He may honestly think that, but, I kinda doubt it.

Sounds old school. My first Pastor was 20 and married his wife when she was 16.

Phil married Kay when she was 16. I don't think he's a pervert, nor do I believe he thinks of wives as slaves. I, too, think it was tongue in cheek. An inside joke that has been twisted into something more dark or perverted than he meant it to be.
And yes, people used to get married very young back in the day.

I don't think it was TIC. I think he was addressing young men. He did say to check with the girls parents.
In 30 states the age of consent is 16. Some states the age is lower if married.
I wonder how old his DIL's were when they married his sons??

They're grasping for straws to tear his reputation down since they suffered such a loss over the A&E debacle.
It was a tongue in cheek comment.
Did Loretta Lynn get married at 12 years old?

I saw the video and thought it was said in a humorous light. The audience erupted with laughter. You would have to 'know' him and his very dry sense of humor to get it. Sadly, those doing the condemning don't want to acknowledge that.

It wasn't toungue in cheek, he was speaking honestly. I don't think there is anything wrong with what he was saying. He advocates parental involvement.
The minimum age for marriage is 16, in Louisiana.
As for a different age or time period, he is younger than my Dad and while his parents married at 14 and 16 respectively, my Dad married at a more mature age, along with most of the "baby boomer" generation.
So that "different time period" argument is bogus.
He said what he said and he isn't backing down from that either-- and I am glad.
