This mindset of modesty teaching is much more balanced than "if you don't do it, you're going to hell" kind of teaching or at least mindset. In the end, modesty is a way you live because you want to be pleasing to the Lord, not because you're scared if you don't do it, that you'll end up in the smoking section of eternity.

I don't know how it ever came to be anything other. It seems that premise of doing things because we personally want to be pleasing to the Lord covers all aspects of this life.

If we do it to please men we are just menpleasers conforming to peer pressure. Joy in the Spirit is for those who forsake all because they want to.
