Hilarious because it is so true! And sad for the same reason!

Just now watched this. It is so true that the general public mindset thinks you haven't succeeded unless you have a degree... So armed with that mindset... go to college, and get a degree, so you can still flip burgers, wow - isn't that the dream you always wanted to fulfill!
It is also a terrible thing to realize that after you've gone to college, gotten huge student loans, not realizing that these loans must be paid off, and that loan can never be erased from your debt load, not even with bankruptcy filing.

i was so saddened by a meme i saw the other day; lady owed $34k, has repaid $27k, and still owes $42k, or some such. students as lifetime revenue streams. she missed no payments. sure, she is an idiot for not making principle reduction payments, and always paying the minimum; but yikes, set up that way? a pure crime.

I have a friend who has the same problem. She started out with a debt of $12,000. Now, because of falling behind on some payments, and because of penalties and fees... she owes close to $50,000 on that original amount of $12,000. It is a lifetime debt, never to be cancelled away.
I found out recently though, that the federal government does have some kind of plan where if you work in certain impoverished school districts for five years, your student loan debt can be cancelled, or reduced. I found out that this is why many of the teachers are working in a particular school district, because it happens to be one of those districts that qualify for the student loan reduction by the federal government. Otherwise, that school district would probably have very few teachers willing to work there.

Wow! Are you sure she didn't get that loan from loan sharks?? I don't even understand how it can balloon like that!

I know she defaulted for several years, I don't know how many. That probably has a lot to do with the penalties and fees.
