Neo-Phariseeism by David Wasmundt 1992
I just finished this book. WOW!!! The main premise of the book is that we should follow the spirit of the law and not the letter of the law. We are New Testament Christians not Old Testament Pharisees. So standers comes up. You can probably guess which ones, women's hair, pants and jewelry.
I would like to say that even though I never heard of this book till recently, I have believed this message for years. I attended a house church at one point and some woman had uncut hair and some trimmed their hair. The same thing for pants and jewelry. Each person had to follow their own personal conviction. David Wasmundt does a great job of exhorting people to follow God and not rules.
I am not very eloquent so I hope I have portrayed this book and message accurately. I will recommend this book to family and friends.
Anybody else read this book? What say you?
P.S. I did not put this in the debate section. If you have read the book I would like to hear what you think, even if you disagreed. If you have not read the book you can go to the debate section and debate it there. :heeheehee

I miss my former Pastor DEARLY-- but I am SO GLAD that I am crystal clear on my stance as Pentecostal, Non-Apostolic.

I read it and enjoyed it. His frustration definitely comes out in the tone of the writing. I'd recommend it if you're ready to move past proving yourself to man.

Forgive this off-topic diversion, but the name "Wasmundt" brought back interesting (if not exciting) memories for me from the 1980s, when I used to occasionally visit a certain Wasmundt-pastored church in Lincoln, NE (not that of David W, but apparently a close relative of his.) That UPC church was quite the "clothes-line-and-standards" type of church (which greatly appealed to me at the time.) So just now I Googled up the following information about my (formerly Lincoln NE) friend's current church, who now is "pastor emeritus" somewhere in Arizona. The final paragraph on the AZ church website reads:
<<The first week of January, 2014, God showed us that He was doing the work, and it was not us. In that one week, we were blessed with two vans, (that we did not pay for), and a larger building to grow in. It was so incredible, one could hardly believe it happened.
February 2, 3024 (sic) we had our FIRST service in the new location. We are so blessed to have ample room to grow complete with Nursery and Toddler rooms adjacent to the auditorium, as well as other classrooms, kitchen facility and room for Banquet/dinners with outdoor dining as well. We are forever grateful to God for His blessings.>>

Pendulum Extremes is about keeping Jesus as your focus. Jesus is the way on your road. Don't go too far to the left or the right. Keep walking straight to Jesus. I can't say this enough this was an awesome book that any Christian will find informative and uplifting.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Gold and Jewelry, pants on women and cut hair on women.
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.
Oh, thats right, Wasmundts word is better than God's word!

Eze 16:7 I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.
Eze 16:8 Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
Eze 16:9 Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.
Eze 16:10 I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.
Eze 16:11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.
Eze 16:12 And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.
Eze 16:13 Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.
Eze 16:14 And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.

Wasmundt actually deals with this and many more verses. The point of the verse is that women should dress in a modest manner that pleases God.
Every verse means exactly what they say? A few verses down Paul said women would be saved in childbearing.

That is exactly what I been telling my wife for years now!!!
For some reason she sees a different translation of that verse than I do.
But I have lined her out with the other thread about women being submissive to their husband and I think I have it all straightened out now!
