Is there any truth that the preacher of this church has a million dollar salary, limousine and private chauffeur? please understand I am not accusing anyone of anything or trying to upset anyone, these are just things that I hear and I was wanting to separate the truth from rumors.
Thank you

I grew up there and often go there when in the states....Bro. Holmes is one of the most godly men I know....I have no idea what his salary might be but one thing I do know he gives and gives and gives to everybody... He drives his own car...just a down to earth person...and a prayer warrior...

I certainly don't know his salary but it is very apparent that he does not live a lavish lifestyle. His house is moderately nice and he doesn't travel much. He also prays several hours a day.

Wow...personally I don't care for church buildings like that. It makes me feel like they are more into the building than HIS building.

Yes, he lives in Sherwood but he has lived in the same house for many years..it is a nice home however I think he deserves it...why worry where he lives? If
God has blessed him that is his business. God uses each one of us in different ways...he is reaching people most of us will never reach...let us reach those we can reach.

Did anyone ever tell you he gave his credit card to another preacher and told him ..Use it for whatever you need? The preacher was building a church in another city...He has given away money like that to many people...God blesses givers....Go to his campmeeting, visit his church...and then write your opinion...
I know I sound defensive but I have known the Holmes family all my life and they are some of the best people you could ever know. Precious praying folks...The church may be worth millions but the biggest part of the people are like most of us just down to earth people...
Brother Holmes and I went to school together...so I have known him a long time....

...and the pictures posted are rather old ones...they did a lot of work there since those pictures and added a lot more pews....

I am going to try to post a couple pictures of churches in Brazil....this is to show the difference...Buildings many times depend on where they are built and how God has supplied for that certain area. Yes, I know buildings and just that...buildings....and one day all will burn....however buildings often draw people too....God knows the reason for each thing He does for His kngdom...

Sister Alvear

Some of us may go to a large nice church others of us may go to a small simple church...however it is not about the building to us who understand the gospel it is about HIM....however many do not understand that yet...God uses many means to reach people...
And we must always remember Jesus never condemned...except for those that sat condemning....let everyone work how he feels best to work for Christ. On that loooooong women preacher thread they have condemned me to no end....but they will never feel in their hearts what I feel...Most of us will never feel what Pastor Holmes feels....that church is his burden...he is there everyday praying for hours...God put him there for a reason....God put one of my sons in the deep dark jungle...another son in one of the most modern areas of Brazil....another one in quite a different area also...the northeast....each one must fulfill God's will...

Don't know the Holmes' personally but have heard Bro. Holmes preach on a handful of occasions and been in prayer rooms with him. Always have been struck by his humility and depth in prayer. Was at a conference a while back and was in the prayer room with Bro. Holmes. May sound weird to some but I got as close to him as I could just to near him while he communed with the Lord. These are the type of men I want to rub off on me.

To those on this forum who have called it "Hero-worship"....call it what you will. These men are my heros. Saints that have paid a price to do a great work for God.

God has equipped each of us differently, to compare ourselves among ourselves is to judge God as unjust. Everything that we experience is in preparation for our purpose both in this age and the age to come.
What is excessive to one is normal for another, I have best friends that are very rich. I rejoice in God's provision, and the maturity and generosity in which they are equipped.
The greed of our culture is found in the have nots as much or more than in the haves.

your right, we have a very greedy "greed is good" culture. who would have the wealth, power and influence to lead us to this point? you really think the poor are just as responsible for this when they have ZERO wealth, power and influence? we didnt get here by accident, we were lead here and it wasnt by the poor.

Matthew 13 22
22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

James 5:1-6
5 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. 5 You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you.

Don't believe everything you hear! :) It's a shame to listen to anyone that starts speaking ill in any way of someone's church or the man of God who pastors. God is not pleased with that mess. Most of the time it's just pure jealousy.

I agree with all Sis Alvear posted about this church and Pastor. I've also been to their annual camp meetings several times and wow, is all I can say. Such a friendly giving church in every way!

Go visit them if you can! Their camp meeting begins the first weekend of August each year! You would sure enjoy it I have no doubt! :nod

In one word, no.
Also, he has worked in the past as a real estate agent and did very well.
Insofar as the church goes, there are several who run construction companies, thereby making it easier to build the buildings they have.
As suggested, if you pick up the phone, call the church and ask for him, he will answer any questions that you have.

Just came across this, and could not go on without addressing this. It saddens me to hear accusations about how much a pastor gets as a salary or what he drives or what kind of house he lives in. Especially when the person does not know much about the church.

Granted there are some pastors that take advantage of their church, but they are few and far between. I am reminded of my pastor growing up. He was the most humble man I knew, would help people out without question, to the point that many of us young ministers under him thought he should have some criteria for just giving people he did not even know money.

After 30 plus years of working a secular job, he sold property he owned from before he came to pastor our church. With the proceeds from this he was able to by 5 acers and build a beautiful split level house with built in swimming pool bought his first Lincoln continental car. You should have heard the derogatory comments from other ministers in our state.
But the fact is this man gave more as did our church than many across our nation, not just locally but every fund raiser the organization had. Never did a missionary come through that we did not support. Never a fund raiser that we did not do everything in our power to raise as much as we could. So when God blessed him we rejoiced.
The time came when the church was able to make him fulltime, and bought his next Lincoln, there is a reason a church will bless their pastor, that being they realize just what they have.

it never made sense to me that the Father would bless people with financial wealth when the Son taught against it.

Matthew 19:23-30
23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 6:19-21
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 21:12-13
12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

Matthew 6 treasures in heaven
hard to understand how ones heart could focus on treasures in heaven when their minds so concerned on treasure of this world. maybe there is something to the men like Samuel who slept on the floor of the temple and why Jesus and the 12 relied on the hospitality of others for a meal.
